Sally Rooney is tackling so many different complicated subjects here whether it be love, grief, or relationships with a sibling, and she weaves them all together into a whole that breaks and warms your heart. Her writing is so singular and that can make it hard to connect early on, but I found that the work needed to fully catch her drift only made me care about the characters more. For the first half or so I was loving one story but not the other, but as things went on I was pretty floored by the emotional depths this went to. Something about Rooney's writing just very much clicks with me, I absolutely adored this

Em 2019, a passear pelas ruas de Dublin, entrei numa livraria e pedi a opinião de quem lá trabalhava na escolha de um livro de um autor irlandês. Na altura, a sugestão foi “Normal people”, de Sally Rooney, de quem nunca tinha ouvido falar. Ainda assim, aceitei a sugestão e comprei o livro. Um ano mais tarde, quando o li, fiquei encantada pela forma como a escritora tinha descrito a intimidade entre dois jovens.

Este é o terceiro livro que leio dela e, provavelmente, o melhor. A descrição das relações entre as pessoas continua brilhante, mas a escrita mais madura. Que bem, Sally Rooney…
