Book 19 for 2025
Rating 4.5/5
tbh I don't remember where the first book ended and this one started, and I think that shows that this series was so good because there wasn't a break between stories and I had to go to the second book immediately after the first book due to being so hooked.
The beginning of the book had our two main characters at odds, which I really cannot blame either of them for. I knew there was something in these books that the MMC did that was extreme enough for people to understand if the FMC didn't forgive him, and I totally get it but I'm still glad it happened. This book had a really good representation for what it looks and feels like to grieve, which added to the internal struggle of the FMC throughout the book and made her growth that much more satisfying. This was also a dual POV book, which I really enjoy, the battles and ending were written well and while the events were slightly predictable I still really enjoyed reading it all. I especially liked our ending because it worked out in a way that was appropriate for all of the characters involved, and was "happy" for our two main characters, so that's a plus.

I had a good time reading this book :) it wasn't on the same level as the first one, but it was still a good time

4.5 rounded down if only because I liked the first one thiiiiiiiiiis much more and so I felt I couldn't give it 5. But a great series. I wished it had wrapped up everything a little more as I don't want to switch POV to another character to find out the final answers. But that's such a small critique.

for some reason, i liked this one more than the first. but barely. barely. i sort of enjoyed a morally gray love interest, and oraya was insufferable but it made her more real.
unfortunately there wasn’t much character development other than our two MC’s and for that i am sad. i miss subplots. also this book is VERY redundant. she repeats herself more than necessary and it didn’t feel like an artistic choice. moreso lazy.
finally, i will say that this book felt more unique than the first in the series. and she is undoubtedly, a talented writer. will i read the next ones? meh

If the whole book had been as eventful as the last 200 pages maybe I would’ve rated higher but it was just suchhhh slog getting through the first half. I also just could not force myself to care for any of the characters except Mische (my Shayla) which is probably my fault for reading this one so much later than the first. Also I kinda did not hate Septimus so I struggled to see him as the bad guy, he was just going through it and honestly fair play!!
