After feeling a bit ambivalent about The Serpent and the Wings of Night (3.5/5) but loving Six Scorched Roses (5/5), I went into this hoping for at least a 4-star read. Unfortunately, as I got to know the main characters a bit more, I realised I just don’t like them and I couldn’t bring myself to root for their relationship. The story itself also felt flat. I couldn’t help comparing it to The Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy, and for me, this didn’t measure up to it on any level. Once that clicked, I decided to DNF.

The plot development within this story is on point. I love the Interludes offered that offer a brief glimpse to the past while staying on course with the present setting. Broadbent does an amazing job with her character evolution of the FMC and MMC individually and as a couple. The storyline is exciting, suspenseful, gripping at times, full of loving moments, moments of “oohhhh!”, and cheers for good guys. I read most of this book in one sitting - it was hard to put down!

Oraya was annoying AF not forgiving Rain for so damn long and he just kept trying and trying and trying to get her forgiveness.
