★x4 | (B+) 88% | AGES 15+ | Classic lives up to its name.
| Characters - ★x4 | Tristan can have his pompous lady, I’ll take Yvaine NO PROBLEM. My girlfriend has a great personality and I don’t need Tristan to be blind for so long. On the real tho, Tristan and Yvaine’s chemistry is so palpable and I loved the tension in the whole enemies to lovers arc. It was really well written.
| Storyline - ★x4 | Absolutely adorable story, felt like really a long lost tale and legend. Found the parts when I wasn’t reading about Tristan and Yvaine a bit drab, but that’s not to take away the fact they were important to the plot. I was really invested in Tristan and the star. <3
| Writing - ★x5 | It’s Neil Gaiman. *shrugs*
Should you read this? Yes. It’s a short, quick read that is worth your time. It is a fanatical adventure of a young man trying to bring back a fallen tar to his one true love only find love is a path that goes both ways. It’s beautiful.

The only thing that ruined this book besides being written by Neil Gaiman was Gaiman's obsession with writing characters pissing and about women's boobs, truly a book written by a man.
My favourite quote has got to be "I'd tell her to go shove her face in the pig pen, and go out and find another one who'll kiss you without askin' for the earth. You're bound to find one. You can hardly throw half a brick back in the lands you come from without hittin' one." said by the little hairy man in response to learning about Tristran's quest for Victoria.
I enjoyed this book greatly, besides the nonsensical mention of characters pissing and the over-mention of women's breasts. It is very whimsical and random in nature, things happen because they happen and the magic does not make sense but I like that about it. Faerie in this book is truly a mystery that you only get to see a small section of. The quest itself is also fine, entertaining, fun and eventful but the meat of the enjoyment from this book comes from experiencing the world and it's wonders and not really actually the plot.
The characters are fine, I liked them quite a bit but I do feel like they take a backseat to Faerie itself as a character, though that did not mean I did not root for them. Their emotional development also really is not show, we are told they went on this long journey but we are not shown the journey, we take a nice walk through their meeting and a huge chunk of the book focuses on before they like each other romantically and what they go through together, we sprint through their actual development of feelings in a couple paragraphs then jog through the resolution. Though the resolution wrapped up nicely. Essentially, the moment they develop feelingsin the most gruesome section of the book , we hop skip and jump right past any growth into the realisation of said feelings.
Also, killingthe unicorn was super mean, did not like.
