It was difficult to keep the names straight of all the different characters (one draw back to listening to it), but it very much is on the style of Sherlock Holmes books. I did enjoy the ending. I find Charlotte and Lord Ingram's relationship puzzling. I don't understand how he ended up married to his wife.

My only disappointment is that I didn't read this sooner. At least I read it too quickly, so when I read it again, it'll be almost like reading it for the first time.

This review is for the audiobook version...

The story is very good. I think this would be better read than listened to since there are so many characters. With a book, you can flip back and refresh your memory. That isn’t possible with an audiobook.

Much better than the sequel, in my opinion! I loved the meeting between Charlotte Holmes and Mrs. Watson.

A great twist on the tales of Sherlock Holmes, through the work of a strong detective named Charlotte. She is hired to solve cases throughout the London area, one specifically in which her family are considered suspects. Will Charlotte be able to solve the mystery and clear their names? Throughout the whole story, I was trying to solve the clues of whodunit. I cannot wait to see what other mysteries she will embark on.

Highly recommend, for mystery fans or Sherlock Holmes fans especially. This reenvisioning has enough different to keep you guessing, and I LOVE the main characters and the way classic Holmes characters and situations are used and turned on their heads. Plus, it has a slow burn romance, my favorite.

I’m a little bit worried that even with a female Holmes there are men behind the scenes making everything possible, but am hoping that was just necessary to this first novel to make the story realistic in Victorian England.

This novel is a clever reimagining of the Sherlock Homes narrative. It isn't a retelling of his cases, but a reflection on how life would look if the sharp-witted, observant detective was a woman who had to contend with the strictures of victorian life. Charlotte Homes wants to be independent of her family and not forced into marriage in order to support herself and her family. She takes matters into her own hands and creates a brother- "Sherlock". This is such a fun nostalgic read with a great twist. We were without power recently and I devoured it in a day.
