Very good magna about gay acceptance in Japan as well as family dynamics. Totally enjoyable and written for all ages.
Very good art, beautiful story.

Cute as fuck, well observed, gentle, thoughtful and thoroughly unmiserable gay media of a high quality? Is this even legal?

2.5 stars, was a bit weird having children mixed in with Tagame's very specific art style.

trigger warning: homophobia

this was a very cute story. Its about Mike who comes to visit his husband's family in Japan. He arrives at the house of Yaichi and Kana, Yaichi's daughter. Yaichi is the twin brother of Ryoji. Ryoji went to study abroad and ended up meeting Mike and getting married to him. All of this occurs before the story starts. At the beginning of the story Mike arrives in Yaichi's house 1 month after the death of Ryoji. We slowly see the reaction Yaichi, Kana and their neighborhood have to Mike and Mike being gay. The story shows a good balance of the unbiased reaction from Kana and biased adult reactions from Yaichi. But after seeing Kana's reaction Yaichi does take moments to really think about why things are they way they are and why his reactions are different from Kana's.
I definitely considered it a fun story and I'm happy that there's a volume 2

Mostly a visual book with the dialogue being kept to a minimum, however, the characters still came out very likable and presented interesting inner turmoil for an all-ages book. Really enjoyed Yaichi's development in confronting his own biases and Kana is extremely adorable despite her one-dimensional personality. Tagama's past work and artistic preferences are definitely visible through the character design as all the adult male characters are real beefcakes and we are treated to many reflective shower/bath scenes. Overall, although I really enjoyed the book a lot of it was foundational work for the future, therefore, I give it an optimistic 3 stars. The second half of this omnibus (vol. 2) did a good job of diving deeper into the personal history of these characters and exploring LGBT themes in Japanese society. I'd like to see Tagama continue to step out of his comfort zone with the rest of the series!
