OK so all the Skulduggery Pleasant books are more violent and dark than your average kids/YA fare and this one is no different. Kids 11-14 will probably just find the violence fun tbh.audreylee's review against another edition

This book series is one of the funniest, best thought through, well written book series there is! Urban fantasy is always tricky and I love how the implementation of the magic in the „real world“ is handled here. The characters aren’t perfect by any definition but unbelievable loveable, funny and overall lovely in their own special way, and most importantly they’re relatable in their imperfection. The relationships are always a delight to retrace and the dialogue is just chefs kiss. This is one of the first series I think of, when someone asks for a youth series with strong women, funny dialogue but serious topics and important life lessons. And it gets queerer the further you get in the books so that’s a big plus, too.grrrlbrarian's review against another edition
