Wow. At first didn't like it and nearly put it down, then it changed gear and became a roller coaster read of twists and turns.
Very dystopian but with what we hear about the USA this week maybe it's not so unbelievable or unlikely.
All is chaos and criminality. No jobs, no money, no home. Living in their car; Stan and Charmaine apply to a new community where all is perfect.... BUT......
Who can they trust? Each other? The forceful woman from Surveillance?
There's a lot of humour, much of it rather dark, in the story. But it is also a warning, much like The Handmaid's Tale. And we know how that is beginning to be mirrored in real life!

Quintessential Atwood but equal parts lighter in tone and more disturbing than Handmaid's Tale or the Maddadam trilogy.
Doesn't reach the heights of some of her best work, but those are lofty heights indeed.
The theme of people's willingness to sacrifice freedom for perceived security... and the dangers that may come as a result... are eerily timely timely.

What is the point of this book? Genuinely asking. There is no real character development or societal commentary, the world building is lackluster, the plot could be considered thrilling, but the writing itself is bad. Margaret Atwood why are you obsessed with sex
Just cannot stick with this one. I don’t care about these characters :( maybe I’ll come back to it one day
