While reading this I had to stop and re-read “A taste of iron and gold” (still excellent, I still love it). Then I immediately picked this back up and continued reading. It was so utterly perfect, is such a lovely background of Tadek and a continuation/epilogue of ATOIAG all in one, and had such a perfect ending. I absolutely sobbed reading the last few chapters, the good crying when it’s something lovely but so sad but still so heartwarming. I really love Evemer, Kadou, and Tadek—I hope we get more of them in the future (including the big event alluded to in this book). It was lovely and wonderful and I absolutely recommend reading it.

I don't cry easily and I cried multiple times during this novella.

Tadek is in the country looking after Kadou and Evermer during their secret honeymoon when he stumbles upon a portrait of Kadou's mother, a woman who saw Tadek and made sure to raise him out of poverty, who gave him hope. Now Tadek must face what the princess was to him and how he has carried the weight of his loyalty, love, and care for her for years in silence. This made me cry several times. It was short but had a huge impact.

As a huge fan of A Taste of Gold and Iron, I was *thrilled* to learn that Alexandra Rowland was releasing a sequel novella focused on Tadek!! Other fans of the book will love coming back to this world and learning more about Tadek Hasira and how he became the man we know and love in the first Mahisti Dynasty novel.

This novella is short and yet packs a glorious emotional punch! It was incredibly sharp—dealing with a long period of time as well as immediately after another book, it was impressively done.

There was a little bit that felt just a tad too inside baseball—but ultimately no one will likely be reading this without its original Mahisti Dynasty novel. So it works.

Rowland really knows how to just plunge into your heart and say “these characters live here now.” And I’m grateful for that!!!!

Screaming crying throwing up etc. Big fan of a taste of gold and iron and this was a beautiful snippet back into that world & those characters - very sweet and a little heartbreaking but also hopeful and funny. Melek novella when?
