"Charming romantic comedy" are three words I would definitely not use to describe The Key to Happily Ever After. Three Filipina sisters running a wedding planning business is a fantastic story idea! this version just didn't do it justice. I didn't connect emotionally with the oftentimes telling-instead-of-showing story or any of the characters. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I smiled at any point while reading.
Maybe it is a great book and I'm just a cranky old grouch! It's hard to judge sometimes.

I don't know this book is lacking something, it's plotless. I didn't care for the characters at all

First things first, this novel is neither romance nor comedy. Do not believe the marketing team.

Full thoughts to follow. (And yes, I'm still conflicted.)

I liked the general story, but there were several editing errors where the incorrect character names were used which was frustrating and confusing.  Also instead of writing climactic scenes, the author just fades to black during intense moments and then picks back up like two months later, which I personally hate.

Enjoyable, quick read. Didn't totally get into the premise and didn't always connect with the writing. But, still a fun read.

DNF at 50%. The cover and title really convinced me that this would be a lighthearted read. It’s not. I’m just not in the mood to read about this much tension between the sisters, and I really tried to get into this.

There is barely a possibility of romance or “happily ever after” hinted at here. Sure, I’m sure the sisters will somehow patch things up by the end. But Pearl is annoying as hell. “I know I’ve never planned a wedding start to finish ever but let me do this possibly most important wedding we’ve ever had because I think I deserve it or I’ll leave.” I don’t know if she’s supposed to be that entitled or the author thinks this is actually a good way to create drama, but I’m not sticking around to find out.

I’m not putting this book down for good just because it features 3 sisters, but only the oldest and youngest are important and the middle sister gets ignored, which hurts my middle child heart.
I’m putting it down because it stresses me out.
Chick lit books are usually about romance and work/family stress, but in this case the stress was overwhelming the romance. Plus two sisters who WERE featured were so rigid in their characters! I know they’ll learn to compromise by the end, but Mari made me uncomfortable and I kind of hated Pearl, so I didn’t care enough to push through to see them get better. Things always get worse first, and status quo was bad enough.
