K-Ming Chang has such a unique voice, and it's perfect for me. A blend of the poetic and the horrific, bodily and queasy. These stories compliment each other thematically and stand out as some of the most original and brilliant fiction of our time!

Throughout these stories women of Taiwanese descent bicker, turn into animals, disappear, fuck, and test the bonds that unite them. You feel so present in these pages, sweaty and grimy or exhilarated and alert. Also sooooo gay <3

gorgeously written with layers and layers of metaphor and subtext, every sentence can stand as a poem; reading it gives the sense of pulling apart barbed wire. all the imagery suggests it as such too, a kind of beautiful and very visceral horror. in other words, haunting & lovely!!

oh my god this book!!! best short story collection I’ve read in a minute, had me hooked so hard I’ve now gotta binge everything else K-Ming Chan has out there.

everything in Gods of Want reads as parable or prophecy. what a wondrous and masterful read about generational grief, debt, hauntings, queerness, desire, immigrant family experiences in the U.S. and the many day-to-day horrors we encounter throughout our lives.
