I picked this up purely for the authors last name. Why not? I had no idea what I was getting in to. It is difficult to say "I really enjoyed reading this book" when child sexual abuse is such a heavy topic. It does a good job of reminding us that this kind of abuse is not always easy to spot.
As mentioned in a prior review, this book isn't for everyone & is difficult to read due to the content. However, I thought that the content was handled beautifully & I learned so much from reading it. It made me think, all questions, & fall in love with the characters. Really excellent all around.
Love love loved this book!! Difficult subject matter handled with such eloquence
This was not an easy book to read...the subject matter is not for the weak at heart. This author did a great job focusing more on the victim and giving the reader an inside look at what happens after. So many times we worry about the punishment instead of the recovery.
When I first read about Jordan, my heart hurt. This book opened the door for people who don't know much about sexual abuse and what it does to kids. Wonderful read.
I can't give this a blanket recommendation because of potential subject matter triggers (sexual abuse against a child) but I could NOT put this book down. While some parts do read like a PSA or pamphlet about abuse, the story & characters really grabbed me and I had to know if this family was going to be ok.
Don’t buy this if you’re looking for a good read or to support genuine victims/survivors of abuse.
I don’t shy away from books with heavy topic material. “A Little Life” by Hanya Yanagihara is my favorite book of all time. However, the way that Katrina Kittle handled this subject matter was poor to say the least, and showed how far removed she is from ever experiencing or working in the world of abuse or abuse victims/survivors. Also, the odd interludes of the main character, Sarah’s own “normal” sexual memories and stories and feelings being intertwined with a story about child rape and pedophilia was disgusting and always left me feeling gross inside. It happened not once, not twice, but almost a dozen times throughout the book. Seriously, the weirdest times to bring up sex, this author chose to. I’ve read so many books where heavy and serious topics were written about with grace and kindness, this was NOT one of them. This was a poorly researched, worse than Colleen Hoover, disgusting attempt at an author trying to generalize and fetishize child abuse for shock value to sell copies of her book. I’m mad I gave her my money.
