Very difficult subject matter, but such a well-written story - I couldn't put it down. Great character development - Nate was my favourite.
Will be reading everything else this author has written!

This book was wonderful, yet haunting. The subject matter is challenging to think about, but the author did a wonderful job of writing about it without giving details. She focused more on emotions, and overcoming the past.
This was an excellent book. It dealt with a horrible subject, in a way that was so relatable. Entertaining and emotional.
I finished this book last night and I'm still reeling. Very well written, but incredibly gut wrenching. One thing that bothered me throughout the book was the author used the word "sex" to describe the abuse Jordan suffered, "rape" would have been a more appropriate word
Katrina Kittle's The Kindness of Strangers is a touching novel about a widow and her two boys who welcome a third, and troubled, young boy into their home and their lives. The Kindness of Strangers deals with sensitive topics, but is a compelling read. Kittle's style and the story itself remind me a lot of Jodi Picoult. It's one of those books where you don't want to like it, because you don't want to like the terrible things that happen, but you enjoy reading it. It really draws you in. The characters are realistic and really stick with you. I highly recommend this novel to the mature, sophisticated young adult or adult reader.
I was rather duped by this book - no fault of the book - but I had read some small snippet of what it was about - something about a women's friendship and a problem in one of their homes and one of the women has the son come live with them -- so I was thinking it was chick lit, light read, little drama - whoa. Suffice to say I would never have picked up the book if I had known the subject matter. I've read a few too many books on this subject and it just makes my stomach wrench. So the 2-3 stars i would give it would be subject matter just because it was not something I would have chosen to read.
However, I do think she did a very good job bringing to the forefront some very difficult issues and the way that people often act inappropriately when hearing about a crime like this, and how they tend to I loved Nate's character and how he matured through the book, and I was glad to see Sarah become strong and keep her priorities in the right place. It was just a heart breaking read.

blame the victim, and ask "why didn't the victim come forward?" It's a very difficult subject to try to understand to those of us who can't fathom such a thing. She did an excellent job of giving Jordan's point of view and a very basic version of the healing process.
This book is like a train wreck; it's horrible (the events of the story, not the book itself), but I simply can't look away. It's very engaging, and I love books that tell the story through the viewpoints of multiple characters.
Now that I've finished this book, I can tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I finished it this morning, and can't stop thinking about it. It shows what people can do... both the horrible, but also what people can overcome.
Highly recommend.

This was a slow started that turned out to be a very good book. It is a story of child abuse told through four voices. It's an emotional story, which sometimes makes you sick to your stomach.
The characters are well drawn out. The author shies away from making anything easy whether it's between a widow and her teenage son or the abused and his foster family.
At times I thought the story was a little too details and wandered a bit. I also did care for the author adding romance to the plot. There was enough going on as it it. I didn't think it really added much to the story.
Overall, I found this book an enjoyable read. I definitely will not be able to forget parts of it easily.

A well-written but disturbing book. The topic of child sexual abuse made it hard, but the writing style made it easier.
This was the first of her books that I read before she did the Thurber picnic last year. It's darkly wonderful
