I love music and went from age 12-22 in the 90s (my formative years), so I am a fan of Nirvana and Foo Fighters. I never got to see Nirvana in concert, sadly, but I have seen Foo Fighters and they put on such a great show. Reading this book is what I imagine it would be like to sit across from Dave Grohl at a bar and ask him to tell you stories from his life. I loved them all. I wanted more. I enjoyed hearing about his friendships and family as much as I did the stories of the bands, the touring, the recording, and the music. He seems like such a delightful human being, and someone you'd want to be friends with even if he wasn't a famous musician. He and his stories remind me of some of my friends who were in bands over the years. As I read, I laughed, I cried, and I remembered, because music is so wrapped up in so many of my memories. I would read so many more of Grohl's tales, and I hope he writes another book down the road.

What a fabulous book. I listened to the audio version which I’d highly recommend as Dave Grohl brings it to life perfectly.

Not a dull moment throughout, I have to admit I didn’t know too much about the man beforehand, but what a revelation. Witty, interesting and surprisingly down to earth throughout (numerous celebrity filled stories aside), I really enjoyed this. And you absolutely don’t have to be a Nirvana or Foo Fighters super fan at all… Dave Grohl is a delight to listen too

A full five stars from me. Bloody brilliant

I read this book out of curiosity and it did not disappoint. I learned everything about Dave Grohl's adventurous life. A hilarious book filled with gratitude and amazing experiences. Not all happy and all smiles but he truly is living his life. He is truly blessed for having an amazing family that supports and loves him.  Great chill read.

Great read. Can’t wait to try KFC and champagne

10/10 absolutely recommend

First a caveat; I read this barely a month after It Takes Blood and Guts by Skin. She is not an easy act to follow at the best of times and this book suffers for the comparison.

Grohl would be a classic raconteur propping up the bar in your local pub. Fantastic storyteller, personable and warm. Unfortunately like most raconteurs his range is wide but it has less depth than a paddling pool. Outside the section covering his formative pre-Nirvana days don't expect any insight or reflection here.

This is almost certainly borne out of hindsight knowing what happened in the years after publication but it feels like every anecdote has been selected as a PR campaign to demonstrate he is authentic and humble. It ends up feeling inauthentic as a result.
