3.5. Highly recommend the audiobook because it's read by Dave Grohl.

The first and last time a book made me cry was when I was 14 years old and read The Fault in Our Stars for the first time, but no book could have prepared me for the emotions I'd feel and the tears I'd cry while reading Grohl's autobiography.

Music has always been my saviour (as it has been for Dave Grohl), so every single page of Grohl's fantastic life journey intrigued me. From talking about his early memories with music to writing about the big stages he has performed on, you are drawn into his story with each word he writes. The name of this book could not be more perfect as Grohl is a fantastic storyteller. This book comes with a rollercoaster of emotions - mostly happiness, but as soon as you read the names Kurt, Taylor, and Jimmy, you are bound to cry. And boy, did I cry. During three chapters, I could barely see the pages because my eyes were full of tears. SPOILER ALERT (although it is non-fiction): Reading about Grohl's relationship with grief when he lost Kurt and Jimmy not only touched me because he talks so lovingly of these two important individuals in his life, but also because I knew what was to come after this book was released.

I wanted to say 'I have a newfound respect for Dave Grohl', but the respect was always there and has just increased. This book is amazing for any music lover, even if you are not, particularly a fan of Nirvana or the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl did the most amazing job at taking you on a journey about the good, the bad, and the dirty of the music industry and I honestly hope there is more to come from him as a writer.

The level of care and passion that was put into this book is evident in every page. As a fan of Dave Grohl I found it interesting to read about his start in music, his days in Nirvana, etc., but what I found to also be interesting was his hopeful and optimistic perspective that he has on life. With every story he tells, he concludes it with a positive sentiment. I also love that he did not use a ghost-writer for this, but wrote all of it himself and fully credited all those who helped him, and how they helped him, at the end. I do think that some stories fell a little more flat than others, but the book as a whole was an entertaining and interesting read that I would recommend to any music lover.

If you don’t already know Dave Grohl is a beautiful human, you will after reading this!
Poetically written by a man who has so much love for life & everyone around him.

Meh. The lack of chronology on this book made it hard to follow.

I never listen to audio books but I had to for this. To hear Dave Grohl tell these stories directly was a joy. I didn’t think I could love him more. It was even more poignant after Taylor’s passing.

Gifted musician, great personality, and now great story teller. Dave Grohl is really one awesome dude. To hear the stories behind how one of my favorite bands, Foo Fighters came to be was the best. To read about all the different musicians Dave can call his friends and also had the privilege to jam with, it just made the stories come more alive.
Highly would recommend this book to any fan of music.
