I've been less enamored with the comic for a while, not to mention the awful TV adaption. Things are getting better in this volume.

I continue to find Rick the worst, but had forgotten about The Hilltop. Fascinating world development. And to foil it with Negan (this reads very differently when you know where that will go) is very smart.

Transitional story arc, so don't expect major character deaths, etc from this one. That being said, for fans of the series, highly critical what may turn out to be the next 2 years worth of story lines. Kirkman continues to deliver.

Well her we are with the next chapter in the story. Was it impressive, meh. In this book Rick is trying to strengthen their community. Keep things safe and secure and I felt this books exactly that. It's a safe bet that people will read this because it is part of the series, and the publisher is secure knowing that even though this is a slow plain book they will make tons of money because it says "The Walking Dead".

I'm being to harsh, this does set up what I hope is a very intense story line in future books. In this book Rick finds out that there are in fact other communities out there. It shouldn't have been such a shock because it just makes sense. It hopefully will open up trade between our group and these others which will bring in some much needed supplies.

We get some new characters introduced and with a new community of people it opens up for some new conflicts that our group hasn't had to deal with. I wasn't a big fan of this book. It just dragged on for me until the end. The new community has brought possibility to where this series can go and I am anxious to see what happens next. I just could have done without this book. If the last half of this book was the beginning of this volume it would have been more interesting if that makes sense. I give this 2 out of 5 stars

Welp. So we know who's dying next. "We're the ones that survive!" I can't believe you just said that. No0o because I liked you!

Also: This volume felt like the set up for a later showdown so we'll see if this Negan guy holds up next to the Governor...you have my attention.

Like the title of this collection, the survivors are reminded of the larger world beyond their walls. As much as Rick and the main group have been protecting their community, a stranger arrives to show them more possibilities and the hope that the old world could be achieved again.

Of course, this may or may not come with a price. I liked how this installment handled this issue. Rick and his group have gone through too much, lost too much, and killed too much, to ever be the same again. How that affects their ability to judge the trustworthiness of an individual is still to be seen.

I've enjoyed The Walking Dead so far and this was the first time where I agreed with the critics: this seemed to be a bit "talky." Rick's big speech was a bit much for me, but that won't stop me from reading the rest of the series.

In the ups and downs of the series, this volume is definitely a down. I understand that sometimes time needs to be spend wrapping up loose ends, introducing new characters, and beginning the journey up a new story arc, but I think you can do that and still have a compelling narrative. This volume has a disappointing lack of structure and on top of that some of the laziest dialogue and rushed drawing of the series so far. There is even a character named Jesus who acts very Jesus-y. I hope we can get back to some surprises and character building in the next volume...
