The Blue Umbrella is a 1980 novel by Ruskin Bond, set in a little village at the foothills of the Himalayas. The plot is about a young village girl who gains possession of a blue umbrella and becomes the envy of everybody around. It is written in a charming fashion and shines a spotlight on the delightfully uplifting innocence in children. It is a simple book for kids that has a moral.

Ruskin Bond's books are filled with nostalgia :)

Read this one this year, but can't remember when.

The canvas of a hillside place was beautifully painted. It was the simplicity and the kind feelings of the girl that was best depicted. The book is short but leaves you with a contentment...with the beautiful description of the mountains and the forests.

It was the beauty of simple people living simple lives, and the story of a girl being fascinated of the beauty of her possession and how she acts selflessly and let go of her small precious little thing and unknowingly makes place for her next precious thing to be held.
