I never like the books that everyone else likes. I'm starting to get a complex. Anyway... this just felt very contrived to me. The characters did not feel real, their relationships to one another felt forced, I had no emotional attachment to any of them or anything that happened. What am I missing?
Phew. What a ride this book was. From page one, I was intrigued with Katie and Penny. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough… and it’s highly possible that I read ahead to get a few answers I was too impatient to wait for. (I love me some spoilers.)
We Came Here to Forget is a powerful, emotional story. I so want to go deeper into details, but I know not everyone loves spoilers as much as I do. Just know your heart strings will be pulled in a million different directions.

Contemporary fiction. Follows a ski champion who falls from grace due to serious family issues. I liked how the chapters alternated between past and current characters. A decent read. Not a love as I didn’t resonate strongly with any of the characters.
An unusual mix of literary fiction and mysterious understory. A great unexpected novel!
This was honestly really good. I borrowed this book from Miranda (stats dept boss) and i didn’t really know what to expect. I’d never heard of it before, but it was very interesting. It relied a lot on exploration of characters thoughts and somewhat mundane interactions which i loved. I do the i i the reveal of her past (along with everyone else’s) was kind of rushed, and i wasn’t a huge fan of the inclusion of the dance instructor and his secret family. i feel like that wasn’t necessary as there were already ample interesting characters, and without his huge importance as a character we could have explored their backstories more in-depth. I also just didn’t understand the need for her pregnancy at the end, that just felt kind of weird to me and very unnecessary, but that is more personal preference than anything. Overall a pleasant surprise that i’m glad i read. Since the book was borrowed it forced me to start reading again and really got me out of my book slump!
I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway...and I loved it. I’m not usually a fan of characters who keep secrets from readers, but this author deftly navigated through that by making the secret so awful that Katie/Liz couldn’t even think about it. And it worked. As the story progresses, readers are offered bits, glimpses, of each character’s story and their secrets, until finally everyone knows everything...almost.
This is neither a suspense/thriller nor a mystery romance. It is a story about people and relationships and messy lives and how they can go wrong, sometimes horrifically wrong, and how this particular group of people put the pieces back together. Even if a little crooked and frayed at the edges.
My only critique is that I wish the epilogue was not added. It tries to tie up this wonderfully complex story with a nice little bow and it shouldn’t be contained in that way. When I read it again, I will skip it. I highly recommend stopping before that and wallowing in the ambiguity of the last page of the last chapter.

Nothing crazy happened that I couldn't sus out while reading, but it was enjoyable to see Katie's growth. Wish there was a touch more pacing in the beginning and resolution at the end. But I loved all the characters in the middle
