Oh yeah, I forgot I read this! It's not very good, but maybe the pressure of trying to take something out of it in my German classes added to my distaste of it.

One thing I do appreciate though is the nuanced portrait of the people living in East Germany. And the "apolitical" approach was also pretty alright as it allows the characters to be a bit more than just instruments for the writer's message.

The problem is that it's kinda... boring.

Schlecht gealtert, oder vielleicht war's auch schon immer schlecht. Komische Schullektüre. Mochte den DDR-Backdrop und dass es in der Sonnenallee spielt, mochte nicht dass das love interest keine Eigenschaft hat außer mit Leuten knutschen und attraktiv sein, wie über Charaktere gesprochen wurde (das Schrapnell, der Dicke und die Tanzkursschwuchteln come to mind), dass es mehr so ne Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten ist als ne zusammenhängende Geschichte. Von wem war jetzt der Liebesbrief?! Der Satz "Es war ein Doppelalbum" ist trotzdem in mein Gehirn eingebrannt. Interessant: das Buch ist echt nach dem Film rausgekommen, so liest es sich auch.
