the interactions between hyeon and eojin have my whole heart. this book is the perfect blend between mystery and romance and is so atmospheric. i loved reading it for a second time and catching on to details i had initially missed. i could’ve read 500 more pages about these two and their adventures.

Really liked the premise, hated the writing. Just could not get myself to care about anything that was happening with how flat all the characters were. So disappointed.
Would have DNFed had it not been for a bookclub.

So, this wasn’t a perfect book, but everything I needed at the moment.

It was fast-paced, with an intriguing thriller and a super cute slow-burn romance between an inspector and a nurse. Also, I’m a big fan of K-dramas, so seeing the vibes and the Korean history so well portrayed summed up a few points ✨.

I will definitely check the author’s other works!

Do I want to be doing Cawpile here? The book read like a good historical fiction Mystery k-drama and I just loved that. But I know it’s not a favourite or something I’d think about ever again. So I suppose a 3⭐️ would do. Or maybe 3.5? Well 3 for now.

I've read about this book, long before i acquired the copy.

After reading The Forest of Stolen Girls that tells the story about 'Fathers and Daughters', Here, June Hur write about 'Mothers and Daughters', about the love ans revenge for the injustice.

It all start from the massacre nearby the palace, and one, irresistible (and stubborn) palace nurse that brave enough to seek the truth - to free her mentor - for untangled all the politics in the palace itself.

Together with a young, handsome police inspector, they race with time to discover the real events behind the bloodshed tragedies.

The difference in this book, compare to the one i've read before is the element of romance, which i greatly appreciated.

This whirlwind of stories that loosely based on the real historical events, left the bitter taste in my mouth, once i finished reading both this book and the historical events of the crown prince.

Perfect mix of mystery and romance. Although the romance did feel a little rushed but that wasn't the main plot of the book so that's okay. Read like a korean drama. I really like this authors writing style.

“There is a saying among us who work there: Palace secrets must never get out, or else inevitably there will be blood.”

In The Red Palace we follow eighteen year old Heyon, a bastard and palace nurse living in 1758 Joseon (Korea). When her closest friend and mentor gets suspected of four murders that took place in the palace she finds herself entangled in solving this murder mystery.

I love reading historical fiction or books related to Asian culture. When I heard many great things about this book I knew that I needed to read this. Well, this book didn’t let me down. It was thrilling, it had complex characters, it had spies, murders, political intrigues, it was romantic and it had an feminist touch. This book never got boring and that was mainly because of its wonderful writing and the steady pacing. So if you are in search for a who done it in a historical setting this book is calling your name. I would recommend checking TW’s before you do plan on reading it.

I’ve read June Hurs other 2 books and absolutely loved them, so I kind of went into this book with high expectations. Those expectations were both met and succeeded. I have fallen in love with Hur’s writing and she is now one of my favorite authors. I read her book ‘The silence of bones’ as a way to ease myself into the mystery genre as well as read it as a fiction korean history and i absolutely LOVED it. I recommend reading her other books as well as this one. I’m also looking forward to her new upcoming book.

side note: i follow her in instagram and i love that she interacts with her fans. she’s also very sweet!!
