It's quite uncommon that one would come across a book so magnificent, like a lotus in full blossom or the big blue moon. The book portrays passion and art at its purest and its struggle to exist for its self and nothing else. Ayn throws at characters so loathsome and disgusting that it is inevitable for any reasonable reader to hate everyone, every single on of them and their disgusting crude stoic selfish motives and actions. Each struggling against their own self-inflicted wounds and each destined for the abyss.
Ayn might have believed in that reality, the reality of the loathsome selfish enigma that she portrays in her books. But I cannot get myself to subscribe to such a dark life as reality. No matter whether we are in agreement or not on the unshaded world of characters of Ayn Rand, her talent is unscrupulous and unabashed in its manifestations.
Unarguably a classic, that stokes and provokes thought, often turbulent emotional ones. To sum it all up A great book (period).

One scene ruined this good book for me, so just a review cause I can't rate this. The characters are interesting and super unique, which would usually earn a star. The unpredictable characters built an unpredictable story too, which would again win a star. The story was so different and the language is not so hard to read either, which should be awarded a star too. The philosophy presented in the book is amazing, and really made me draw parallels to the real world, which again deserves one star. BUT, the book has a scene of rape (you will not see it coming even if you know it ll happen, so it's not a spoiler), which is presented to not be wrong, because of the characters involved. And I just could not stomach seeing something scarring and traumatizing written to be fine like that. The scene is symbolic, but personally I just did not like something that leaves many people helpless and destroyed, written the way it was, like the victim craved it too, and since way we like/dislike something is mostly based on how we feel about it i just could not accept it. So, I agreed with the rest of the book, but due to disagreement on one particular scene, which was bothering me throughout, I just could not give it a good rating. i did not want one scene to weigh in on a book that is otherwise perfect, but that scene did make me semi-hate the way I saw the rest of the novel. Would I recommend it? Yes, but take that one scene with a bunch of pinches of salt.

I expected not to like this book. The philosophical premise seemed too obvious and presented in a very didactic manner at times, leading me to believe that I know where Ayn Rand is taking me and the conclusions she wants me draw. Yet, despite it, I found the book impossible to put down, inspiring for the themes it raises and forcing me to voice my unsolicited opinions with others. I wish I've read it with someone so as to be able to discuss the points it raises so masterfully. I may not agree with the whole of the Rand's philosophy of individualism and objectivism, but I must recognise her strength in expression, her mastery in presentation and plot-building.
