I enjoyed elements of this book (Gordon has a punchy, fun style), but overall found it self-indulgent and navel-gaze-y in the extreme. Happily, the days of the tell-all middle class trainwreck autobiography's strange hold seem to be behind us. I'm not surprised that this was published in 2014, and I kind of wonder whether it would be published now. Bridget Jones was the acme of the genre -- we should have stopped there.

I usually hope to learn something in some way when I read memoir (or whatever this is) but there's nothing teachable in this.

Tbh I should probably stop reading memoirs by middle class white women from London 🤷‍♀️

Told with Bryony's trademark candour, humour and refreshing self-deprecation THE WRONG KNICKERS - A DECADE OF CHAOS is a memoir of a twenty-something Londoner who lived through her Bridget Jones years and survived. Embracing the messier side of life, it is a must-read for any woman who has survived, or is surviving, her twenties.

I read this because I enjoy Bryony Gordon's columns in The Telegraph and I thoroughly enjoyed it although I found it a terribly sad book despite the humour. Bryony's story shows such low self-esteem and it's such a shame to think that a young girl could treat herself (and allow herself to be treated) so badly! I realise that some of the excesses are no doubt over-emphasised to make a good read but the overall impression it left me with is sadness that a decade which should be so much fun was in fact the complete opposite.

A happy ending though :)

I was in dire need of something light, funny and easy to read- this was a great thing for me to have picked up, plus it has an uplifting message about how there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. As someone who has also had a rocky time progressing through their 20s, it was quite cathartic. It also allowed me to see that some of the crazy I am going through really needs to be put into perspective!

It took me a while to get into this one but it ended up being an easy one to finish. Bryony Gordon is a relatable writer - every woman will find ideas or anecdotes that resonate in this, and will no doubt cause flashback to the debauchery of your 20s! I can see why this book is compared to Bridget Jones - it’s the story of Gordon’s muddle through life, evolving through the path of senseless people-pleasing to loving herself and finding romantic love and happiness on the way.

Bridget Jones' Diary, anyone?

A nice, easy read. Some parts were a little dragged out and felt a bit entitled. But it was a nice laid back, ‘don’t need to think about it’ read.
