This was so good! I loved being inside Dex's head and reading what he was thinking about in some of the most important scenes in the series. It certainly redeemed him in some parts where he was acting like a jerk because you could see his reasoning (I mean, he was still a jerk but I also understood where he was coming from). I loved seeing how much he felt for Perry

Enter the mind of Dex Foray at your own risk.

This was such a treat! I love it when authors do this; allow us to see the other side of certain pivotal scenes. Because the thing is, they know their characters inside and out, even if the main series is written first person from only one perspective like this one is, the author still has to know the other characters just as intimately to make the magic happen. They need to know exactly what the other player is thinking and feeling during those often convoluted conversations where people aren't saying what they really mean or the whole of the truth. But now we get to know, too! And there are certain scenes here I would have paid a handsome sum to know what Dex was thinking right then, and also some bonus scenes that I hadn't really thought much about, but that were enlightening nonetheless.

Be warned, however, Dex's mind is a dirty, mucky place! I was surprised by that most of all. He didn't strike me initially as such a sexual creature—that was something that evolved over the course of the first 5 books. But after reading this, you'll know that all those times from Perry's POV where his face was described as being blank/expressionless? Yeah, he was probably thinking about sex. The dirty rascal ;)

As well as revisiting scenes from the main series we also got scenes from Dex while he was away from Perry AND scenes from his early childhood and adolescence. Truly, if you want to know how this man's mind works, this novella will tell you.

Here is the list of scenes you get:

Prologue
After School Special
Dear Abby

Spookshow Baby (A Darkhouse scene)
Even Deeper (A Darkhouse scene)
Big Dumb Sex (A Darkhouse scene)
Butterfly Caught (A Red Fox scene)
She’s Got a Way (A Red Fox scene)
Stripsearch (A Dead Sky Morning scene)
Digging the Grave (A Dead Sky Morning scene)
When Good Dogs Do Bad Things (A Dead Sky Morning scene)
She Loves Me Not (A Lying Season scene)
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer (A Lying Season scene)
Mr. Self-Destruct (A Lying Season scene)
Demon Cleaner (An On Demon Wings scene)
Bailout (An Into the Hollow scene)

I really enjoyed this. It was worth every penny.

These scenes from Dex's point of view should cover his most important interactions. Are you surprised that most of these are related to sex? I was not.
I never liked Dex much and I hoped that these novellas told from his point of view will help with that. No such luck. Maybe I even dislike him more. :/

A solid 4.5
I waited until after I read Into the Hollow (Book 6) to read this one, but I wish I had read it before Book 5 (or even right after...or maybe during...I dunno). Anyways, I had so much fun living in Dex's mind for the day and I was kind of sad when it was time for me to leave. The only downfall to a different POV take is that I already know what's going to happen and that's a bummer. There were really only a couple of places where I was suprised, but nonetheless it is a great addition to the stories and a must read for any EIT fan.

Oh hello there! I was just reading what my boyfriend Dex was proclaiming about me….

Ok, I am slightly delusional. Have I told y’all how much I ADORE Dex?!?!?! If not then this novella will convince you more than I can. In ‘The Dex Files’ we learn a little more about our mystery man. From child, to rebellious teen, to the wonderfully flawed man we know today this mini book is enough to get you through until the next Dex fix.

I'm updating b/c I didn't give this book justice. My love for Karina has grown. I just found her just the end of March when I needed more variety, yeah I had contempoary romance but damn. This series just what I needed. I never thought I was going to go through a series like this where I needed the next one right away. this one I loved. Karina has a way of knowing Dex. Like she says all the time she thinks like him and it's perfect. Him and his asshole, douchcanoe, perverted way. I still love him no matter what. I like a man's POV better than a womans's becuase there isn't a lot of where a female author can put the male tone into words but damn she hit the nail on the head.
“Yeah, work that mustache, you stud, chicks fucking dig the rapist look

“Oh, I had no fucking idea what I was thinking about. All booze plus no meds makes Dex a crazy boy.”

Ahhh Dex... you fucked up, gorgeous, traumatized, stupid stupid man. I loved seeing things through the eyes of Dex. He's such a moron though... if he'd just open his mouth and tell the truth... then again, same applies to Perry. *sigh*

I honestly thought it was impossible for me to love the snarky, complicated asshat that is Dex Foray any more than I already did. And then I read this novella, and realized how wrong I was.

Holy...smokes.

Now, it will come as no surprise to anyone who has been following my updates and reviews lately to know that am a HUGE fan of the EIT series. So, my expectations going into this novella were high to begin with. But once again, Karina Halle blew all my expectations out of the water.

Warning: SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

Dex has been a mystery to fans of the series from the beginning, so having the chance to get a peek inside that twisted, pervy head of his?! Sooo damn gratifying. Getting to see his take on some of the key scenes from the series to date was eye-opening to say the least. For example, finding out that Dex was already having feelings for Perry before the end of their first adventure...made my inner Dex/Perry-shipping fangirl want to do wind sprints around the yard.

Of course getting a glimpse inside Dex's head was eye-opening for many reasons. Least of which was seeing just how much of a pervy weirdo he really is. And I will stand here and proclaim for all the world to hear: I APPROVE!!! :P

"I wondered if she'd let me grab her thick, dark mane and hold it like a pair of reins, if i could make her come with my girth alone or if I'd need to reach down and stroke her until she literally dripped on the carpet."

Um...yeah. I will freely admit I thought that entire chapter, Big Dumb Sex would put me in my grave. I will never listen to that Soundgarden song the same way again, let me tell you! But despite my hormonal overload while reading certain parts of this novella, the main thing I truly loved about The Dex Files was getting to see not only how vulnerable and conflicted Dex was most of the time...but how fiercely protective and loyal he was with Perry right from the beginning. Even when he seemed cold and pushing her away, he was struggling with his feelings for her, and the need to protect himself from letting his guard down and ending up with his heart being ripped apart again.

There was something so vulnerable and restrained about Perry, something that made me want to do stupid, ridiculous things to keep her safe. At the same time, I wanted to draw her out and make her strong, like a diamond from coal.
Without even realizing it, I found myself gazing deep into those blue eyes, totally fucking lost in them. My heart did a little flip. Christ, this was not a good idea. My heart of all hearts did not need to be flipping.

Okay. I know what you're thinking; I need to get a hold of myself here. Every time I write a review for one of the books in this series I come off sounding like some smitten fangirl. Well...that's because I AM a smitten fangirl. My love for this series and these characters is ridiculous. And that kind of makes it impossible for me to sound professional when writing about them. So, if that's wrong...so be it!!

So, I will continue to pimp these books out to my friends, and anyone willing to listen. Because they deserve a bigger audience.
Karina Halle is a badass force to be reckoned with, and I am so effing glad I allowed myself to get sucked into this incredible series that has been consuming my life for the last few weeks.

She was mine. For the sake of appearances, she was my wife, but she was mine anyway. She didn't know it yet, but I did. It was wrong and it made no sense, but she belonged with me. No one else, not anyone else.
