Lo de que los dos sean gilipollas, vaya y pase. Pero que se comentan dos violáceos, el volador eche la culpa a la víctima, y encima se romantice y se pase completamente por alto la primera agresión...como que no.

This is how you do an enemies to lovers book. I believed that Addie truely hated Zade with every fiber of her being, how could you not. He needed to win her over and burn was very slow. The spice was intense between them and I would agree with a lot of reviews that call it SA over CNC at times.

I loved the spooky nature of this book and the thriller elements at the beginning before you got to know Zade. I loved the sub-plot of her Grandmothers murder case. Did I find the plot predictable, yes, but I didn’t mind so much as it was so well written.

My only beef was Zade’s inner monologue. I could have done with less “oh my mouse is perfect” lines and metaphors. We get it, move on.

Would I recommend it? Yes and no. I think only to people immune to violence in literature like I am or those who can separate literature from life. This book is intense and not for everyone. It makes me wonder what Hunting Adeline will be like as the violence and trigger warnings are worse. We shall see.

Dark Romance • Stalker • Mystery • Trafficking

* As always with Darker Romances please check trigger warnings!! Don’t go unkowningly into something you know you’ll hate or aren’t prepared for.

I’ve heard so much about this duology and truthfully it was one I was prepared to skip until I found the audiobook available on Spotify premium. Whilst I’ve read my share of Dark Romances ‘the stalker’ trope just didn’t appeal at all however with soooo many raving reviews my intrigue got the best of me.

I thought this book would be a bit more like the Mindfuck series, serial killer who falls in love.

Likes
- well written (tad repetitive towards the end)
- love the eerie setting & the house vibes
- would make a great Halloween read
- Mystery within the story made it more entertaining. I had a peak of the book in stores & love how the Great Grans dairy entries were featured like a handwritten page.
- probably one of the best narrations you’ll ever hear!
- intriguing / Entertaining

Dislikes
- Zade behaviors is hypocritical.
- Conflicted with Zade doing a good thing by killing these awful people but toying / torturing Adeline at the same time. Sandwich that with the whole consent thing. It’s like Author is trying to justify Zade’s behavior like “he’s not that bad” look at all the children and women he saves but depraved in how he treats the women he’s obsessed with.

- the amount of drinking made me want to drank! 😂 I’m not a drinker but damn Addie and her friend have a drinking problem…

Hubby’s Quote - “I need a drink” , “he’s not in love, he’s obsessed with her”

This book isn’t as dark as you’d expect but I have strong feeling that will chance in Part 2 with Mouse being taken. Some scenes were ruined 🔫 because of social media. If you go in blind you might be a bit more surprised.

Excited to pick up another H.D Carlton book

This is genuinely the worst book I’ve ever read, and I’ve read MULTIPLE Colleen Hoover books.

I read Credence by Penelope Douglas earlier this year, and though that was a shocking read, I ate that book up like it was pork dumplings. I was looking for more books like Credence, and was thus recommended Haunting Adeline by H. D. Carlton.

I am never trusting BookTok ever again. I have given them second chances like a book trope and they disappoint me every time.

THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE BOOK AND SHOULD NEVER BE CONSIDERED ONE. It is a book about a man STALKING a woman and sexually assaulting her. The author essentially condoning Zade’s abuse towards Adeline by making her constantly second guess whether she consented to things, is just awful.

The actual writing is horrible and filled with the most bizarre metaphors and similes I’ve ever read.

The B plot about Adeline attempting to solve her great-grandmother’s murder WAS SO BORING, I had to skim it every time.

Really enjoyed this book but it is very, very disturbing. Take note of the content warnings if you plan to read it.
