This is by far my favorite of The Inheritance Games series. Typically, multiple POV books are not my favorite because I tend to find characters and storylines that I like more than others, but I was very happy to find that both storylines in The Hawthorne Brothers captivated me equally. I was never disappointed to switch POVs because it meant getting back to an equivalently engrossing story.

This book is focused on Grayson and Jameson. One side of the story centers around Grayson traveling to Phoenix, where his half-sisters reside. He initially arrives in town to get Gigi (the bubbly of the two twins) out of jail, and ends up entangled in her scheme to find out what happened to her father. Grayson is determined to protect his and Avery's secret regarding his father's disappearance without getting emotionally attached to his half-sisters and the ideas of what could have been had they grown up at least somewhat together. I love Grayson as a character. He's very complex; he's been raised to be the heir apparent of Tobias Hawthorne, to be perfect and commanding of respect, but he's hurting. This storyline allowed us readers to see more of Grayson, what goes on in his mind and how the cold front he puts up with strangers is equally a shield and a strategic method of obtaining what he wants or needs. His internal conflict made the story interesting, and his half-sisters charmed me very quickly, too.

In the storyline, we have Jameson who's father contacts him again to help him. His father has recently lost the deed to a manor that has been in their family for a long time, and needs Jameson's help retrieving it. Naturally, Jameson can't refuse. He loves the game too much. He and Avery end up entering an exclusive underground gambling club in order to enter a game organized by the Proprietor, owner of the club, and win the chance to retrieve the deed. I found this storyline to be just as enthralling as Grayson's, and it actually made me like Jameson a lot more. In my mind, he was still the rash young man who lives for danger and has no sense of consequence if it means winning a game. Reading his POV, however, gave me a lot of new insight on Jameson and how his childhood and teenage years shaped him to be who he is now.

I will also quickly add that there are multiple flashbacks to the boys' childhood in which we see more of their relationship with their grandfather that helped flesh out their characters a lot more. This book was such a great addition to the series!

A good addition to The Inheritance Games universe, but not my favorite. There were definitely things I enjoyed, but it was a little long, and I think Grayson and Jameson’s stories could have been split into two novellas. The scenes from the past were interesting, but I think I like Tobias Hawthorne even less than I used to.

“Some of us exist just a little too loudly for the comfort of those who would prefer we did not exist at all”

Jennifer Lynn Barnes, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, is a literature genius! I will always love her works and I’m obsessed with this series!

The Brothers Hawthorne based solely on Grayson and Jameson’s storylines. I loved that both storylines followed their fathers/paternal family.

I have always been #TeamJameson but always had a love for Grayson. This book made me fall in love with Grayson so much more! It should the character’s vulnerabilities, his interaction with his sisters and the love for his paternal family! I loved his relationship with Gigi, who is quickly becoming a favourite character of mine and who reminded me of Xander in this book!

Jameson’s storyline of finding his father and then being betrayed but eventually finding familial love with his paternal uncle was everything that we needed to round the series up. The plot twist of the secret being revealed at the end makes me hope that the storyline comes out in future books. And the introduction of the spin-off series was *chef’s kiss*

I look forward to reading the next series and undoubtedly loving the rest of Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ works! 4.5⭐️

I struggled to rate this one. I enjoyed books 1-3 of the series but left somewhat bored by this one.

Unlike the other books where Avery was the main character and the Hawthorne brothers played supporting roles, this book is from the point of view of 2 of the brothers with the narrative switching between them at random points. It's almost like 2 mini books in 1 as each brothers story is quite a bit different and doesn't link into the other.

The stories also felt very farfetched which took some of the shine off. And the self destructive nature of the brothers really started to grate at times.

Dragged on for two long and the series should've just stayed a trilogy.

Alice is alive!? I love Gigi and its great to see more of Jamesons relationship with Avery!

The devils mercy part was amazing, and i feel bad that Grayson had to lie to his siblings, especially as he didnt want to

This is not as good as the other books in the series, but it’s still overall a good book.

It was great to see the expansion of both Grayson and Jameson's family and their meaning of family as well.  I'm not so sure what I think about Eve but I do like how each book in the series leads to more intrigue and things to explore.
