Belum lagi mo jodoh2in mia sama prince rene sepupunya....., maksa mia baca buku jane eyre yg buat mia sempet ikutin tils2nya buat agak2njual mahal sama cowo...wew...
Tapi syukurlah in the end.... stilllll i love it so much ^^,

3.5 stars because Mia seemed super whiny in this book. She was also BOY OBSESSED (in all caps on purpose) but then again she is a 14-year-old girl.

The books are beginning to blurr, cause I am reading them faster than I can rate them on here.
I do know that this book felt a lot different from the others in the change of Mia's voice, how she really complains a lot. I remember liking all of them as a whole, but in this re-read I am older and therefore see the older characters from a different perspective. I am currently on book 6, and this is the one I have overlooked the most because it feels very transactional, after that happy ending we had on the third book, and Mia's time on Genovia feels hasty instead of interesting.

Major spoiler of Jane Eyre, so I suggest that if you plan to read both of these books, read Jane Eyre first.
Not that this is a kind of book you would normally pair with Jane Eyre, anyway.
Princess in Waiting focused on Mia's first journey to Genovia as the heir to the throne and her insecurity about her relationship with Michael Moscovitz, Mia's one-month boyfriend and best friend's brother.
As an adult, Mia's insecurity, immaturity, and head-in-the-cloud-ness are sometimes annoying. I swear she turns everything into a drama. It might be more enjoyable if you read it for the sake of nostalgia, or if you are still a teenager yourself.
Also, since Mia's bestfriend parents are psychologist (or psychoanalyst, or psychiatrist, used interchangeably along the series...which, I have to say, are different, please don't regard them as a same profession), the book refer to psychological term a lot. Might incite further inquiry for unfamiliar reader to psychological literature, so I think, overall it's acceptable.

god sooooo boring! Yes, it's a middle grade book, but I just feel like there was so much whining by Mia and looking down on herself. A book doesn't always need to uplift people, but with this book being geared towards young girls, I feel uncomfortable by how often Mia looks down upon herself and obsesses over what's-his-name when she's clearly doing fine with all her Princess duties. There's definitely a line to straddle between being somewhat of a good influence to young girls and also trying to accurately inhabit the voice of one. This to me just fell so flat and I almost DNF-ed this.
right around here, the series gets almost unbearable. the timeline of this book is ridiculously short and so meaningless, I only held on to get through to the final book...
