Mia's poetry is always iconic
I can't... Really bring myself to like this book.
So basically the 259 pages of the book focus on Mia whining about how she can't go on a date with her boyfriend Michael, the boy she's been in love with for 8 years... I would've put up with this, if there was a significant other plot present somewhere in the book. There wasn't. What did the book amount to in the end? What was the message that we received at the end? That it's okay to whine and mope for about 100 pages because you can't go on a date with your boyfriend? Even if its a matter of Royal importance? Seriously?
I understand she was pining for Michael for a long time, but does that excuse her becoming a doormat? That her every thought has to revolve around him? She's 14 for Christ sake! Not 11!
I can't bring myself to say that I liked this book; the only reason I finished it was because it was such a short read.
Almost somewhat-entertaining writting, not good enough plot and overly annoying main character make me rate this book about 2.5 stars

In Royally Obsessed, Mia is making her first appearance in Genovia and has to attend boring meetings and events. She's also extremely worried that her boyfriend, Michael Moscovitz, might find someone who is more talented, smarter and prettier than her.
♕ The plot lacks substance. The Princess Diaries series is character-focused and plot has never been its strong suit, but in Royally Obsessed, the plot is repetitive and drawn-out.
♕ Mia is so boy-obsessed in Royally Obsessed and its annoying. I also find it difficult to relate when character's lives revolve around their boyfriends.
♕ I love Michael Moscovitz.
♕ Mia and Michael are one of my OTPs.
♕ I like Lily more than I hate her in Royally Obsessed.
♕ Grandmere is such a scary, cunning, sly and manipulative woman. Such a Slytherin! I love her.
♕ The lists that Mia and Lily make are awesome.
♕ The commentaries about the movie about Mia's life, i.e. The Princess Diaries movie, in Royally Obsessed gives me life.
♕ Royally Obsessed is hilarious. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments.
"What is WRONG with me??? This better be PMS. Because if this is what love is like all the time, I don't want to be in love anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (Mia Thermopolis)

This series is still a lot of fun and I will forever love seeing the cute moments between Mia and Michael (the Algebra class scene and first date being absolute perfection!)
However the fourth book is really not my favourite...
Mia is just so frustrating in this one as her worrying and naivety goes to whole new levels. That being said, however, I can appreciate that she is a fourteen year-old girl getting used to her first relationship, but come on! Charlotte Bronte would be ashamed!
Also you can really tell that this was an early noughties book, and not just through the popculture references. At several moments throughout this book the words 'retarded' and 'demented' were used by Mia to describe her ridiculous actions and that really started to rub me up the wrong way.
Though all that being said I am still really enjoying this reread and am adoring falling in love with Michael Moscovitz all over again.
3/3.5 stars

3 stars. Mia is such a mess and I feel like I say that in every book review so far but she is. She continues to top herself in being a hot mess with each book. It’s kind of impressive honestly. This one was fun and didn’t annoy me as much as the previous books but I’m not in love with this series like I used to be but it’s fun for nostalgia’s sake to pick these up because they were a really big part of my childhood.

It was cute but oh my word. I forget how cringy 14 year olds can be. And awkward. Mia is definitely learning a lot throughout the story. It definitely brought me back to my early high school/late middle school days. And just a reminder for me that these books are not like the movies. Even though I did love that this book referenced the movie starring Anne Hathaway in it. Golden moment.
