I never liked this book when I was younger. I'd usually end up skimming through it at best whenever I'd try to read it. This time I really really enjoyed reading it. I liked the mood of the book and the fact that you were always wondering what the Meredith children were going to do next and how they were going to get out of trouble.
Also the dark foreshadowing in this book was totally lost on me. I found the book, as an adult, to be bittersweet and in some ways chilling when one considers that L.M. Montgomery is writing about the time right before world war one and about the children who will become the soldiers who will fight in that war.

While I thought this book had some sweet vignettes, it felt a little all over the place with multiple perspectives from various children/families. It also felt repetitive - several personalities of the characters featured in Rainbow Valley felt a little "copy & paste" from previous installments in this series. I didn't find anything particularly memorable or standout in this book, and I am a little saddened by that.

Mary Vance casually drops the N-word in relation to how hard she's been working.
Definitely not my favourite of the series by any stretch - not enough Anne, too many children. But it was still a cosy read.

They’re just not as fun without Anne. She’s hardly on the page.
