Not my favorite, but a sweet story. Too little Anne, and sad foreshadowing of war. I truly enjoyed the Meredith children, but the book lost points for some racism throughout.
می‌خواستم بهش دو تا ستاره بدم، چون گولم زده بود. من کتاب رو به خاطر آنه خوندم، و با خودم گفتم حداقل اگر درمورد خودش نباشه، درمورد بچه‌هاشه، اما نبود. داستان درمورد کشیش بود و بچه‌هاش.
یکی از دلایلی هم که نمی‌خواستم بیشتر از دو تا ستاره بهش بدم، این بود که رفتار کشیش و بچه‌هاش رو درک نمی‌کردم. درک نمی‌کردم که یه نفر تا اون حد سربه‌هوا باشه و اون بچه‌ها اون قدر خوب و پاک و معصوم.
حالا چی شد که شد سه ستاره؟
دو صفحه آخر، دقیقا به همون دو صفحه آخر یه ستاره اضافه دادم، چون واقعا قشنگ بودن و به شدت متاثرم کردن.
یکی از پاراگرافای فوق‌العاده صفحه‌ی یکی‌مونده به آخر که خطر اسپویل هم نداره:
جنگ بزرگ هنوز سایه‌ی سرد خود را روی زندگی جنگاورانش نینداخته بود. جوانانی که قرار بود در فرانسه، فلاندر و... بجنگند و شاید بر زمین بیفتند، هنوز پسربچه‌هایی بازیگوش بودند که زندگی چون رویایی شیرین پیش رویشان بود. و دخترهایی که قرار بود زیر بار غم و اندوه کمر خم کنند، هنوز دخترکانی خیال‌باف بودند که ستار‌ه‌ی امید و آرزو پیش رویشان می‌درخشید.

ولی این جلدهای آخر احساس می‌کنم بهم خیانت شده. دیگه این کتاب، آن شرلی نیست. :)

After that disappointing 6th book, I was a little worried about what this 7th would be like. Although, again, the main action has little or no to do with Anne, this time it felt like a book-length story as opposed to mini character profiles. Anne's children make friends with the new Minister's children and there are plenty of tales and wild antics that ensue. The Minister and his kids really do take center stage but Anne's presence is still felt and the book is quite an enjoyable, leisurely read.
As soon as I read this book I wanted to learn how to make a cup out of bark! But that was a few years ago and I still haven't learned! Phooey! But this book really was fun.
Yeaaah this one was not it tbh. Like why was the majority of the book centered around a completely different family and completely different children?? I just didn’t find myself caring about them that much. It felt like a series of filler episodes in an anime when they focus on the characters you don’t gaf about while the main characters are doing something way more exciting. Also tell me why there are just way more instances of casual racism in this book? Don’t get me wrong, L. M. Montgomery has sprinkled in some racist comments here and there in her previous books, but these two specific instances were crazy to me. One, Mary (an annoying character who I wish I didn’t have to read about), says on page 131 that she “works like a (slur for black people, you can guess which one)” in regards to the work she does for Mrs. Elliot. Ummm tf? I had to do a double-take. Never have any of these books contained the n-word, let alone the n-word with a hard r. And then the second instance was when Mrs. Elliot, or Cornelia as we know her, says (on page 183) this charming sentence about a local man: “There is no more Christianity about him then there is about a black naked heathen in Africa, and never will be.” GIRL WHAAAT?! Absolutely insane shit!! And yes, I understand when this book was written but I feel like I’m allowed to be irked by these things. Anyway, WWI is looming on the horizon and it is what the next (and last!!) book in the Green Gables series will be themed around. I just know it’s about to be sad asf but at least something will be happening 😂
