Zaskoczyło mnie, że głównymi bohaterami są tym razem dzieci pastora. Klimat i historie były całkiem fajne jednak chcę więcej Blythów.

While I loved the Meredith children's mischief, the slow burn romance between Jon Meredith and Rosemary, and the glimpses of life at Ingleside with the Blythes, the incendiary language presented by Mary Vance ruined this one for me. I know it was written in another time but I could have done without Mary's character altogether. Some of Miss Cornelia's rantings seemed unnecessary as well.

Apparently I rated this four stars in the past. I had a very vague memory of this one that proved to be extremely wrong once I started reading it. I thought for sure this centered around the Blythe kids. Nope! Instead, most of the story is devoted to an entirely different set of kids. It reads like LMM wanted a break from Anne but her publishers were demanding another Anne book, so she squished Anne and her kids into this story of the Meredith clan.

Because they're who the story is really focused on. And I guess it's just a product of being older, but I could not stand Mary Vance in particular reading this book. I really did not like her character at all. The Meredith kids weren't terrible, but I was so disinterested in them because I wanted to read about Anne and her kids instead. Also, there was a scene with Faith and this older man that was uncomfortable and weird. This guy was being terrible to this young girl, calling her a witch and so forth, and when she snaps back he's all "oh stay for dinner". If that wasn't weird enough, she refuses (rightly s0) and he keeps pressuring her to stay. I want to chalk this up to the time period but surely even back then this would've been uncomfortable.

Not much else to say, as I didn't even finish the book. I read on for a while hoping for any focus on the Blythe family. There were some cameos from Anne or Susan or one of the kids, but they might as well have not been there at all for all they contributed to the plot. I don't know how I would've felt if this was a one-off with no connection to the Anne books, but since this is supposed to be part of that series it just feels weird to have so little to do with Anne.

Out of all the books in the series, this one feels the most similar to book 1. Although the focus is not on Anne's children, I still enjoyed it very much.

DID NOT FINISH

Could not finish this book. I’m so sick of Anne and her 300 children and her trad wife life. I got almost to the end of this book and was finally like, why am I reading this?????? One of the worst books from the series.
