This series is definitely a product of its time and I didn’t like insensitive words that were used. Honestly, this series should’ve ended with book 5. I’m DNF-ing the series here.

Rainbow Valley is all about the Meredith children and thankfully (depending on how you look at it), I ended up liking them a little more than the Blythe children.
I don't care much about the children, with the exception of Faith Meredith, a spunkier version of young Anne. I also like Una Meredith, because she's a sweetheart and Walter Blythe, because he's relatable.
The West sisters and their relationship is my favourite part of Rainbow Valley, especially after Norman Douglas, who's all about the drama, comes into the picture.
I dislike that John Meredith is so neglectful towards his children. I also don't like that the community gossips about every single 'wrong' thing that the Meredith children do, but it mirrors the reality that children of religious leaders are judged more harshly. There are also a lot of preachy religious talks.
This book is a product of its time so there's, unfortunately, racism and derogatory terms.
I like some aspects of Rainbow Valley, but overall, I'm underwhelmed.
“It is never quite safe to think we have done with life. When we imagine we have finished our story fate has a trick of turning the page and showing us yet another chapter.”

It’s hard to review this book as you can’t really judge it to today’s standards…. But I simply didn’t care for this book. It wasn’t even really about Anne’s kids it was about another family…. I miss Anne

I missed Anne even more in this book than I did in Anne of Ingleside. She's hardly in it at all! I did enjoy reading about the Meredith kids (and not just because of their awesome name). The grownups in this book were not great, though. Reverend Meredith is totally a terrible father, and it really bothers me. Also, Ellen sucks, and Rosemary should stand up to her. OK, now I feel better. I can handle all manner of stupidity from the children, but when the grownups are dumb, it makes me crazy. Still, I'm excited to read the last book in the series.
