"Small things like these" --> everyday satisfaction. A loving spouse, a warm home, happy kids, a good job.

MC grapples with his past in the light of discovering unsettling practices at the covenant in town -- a girl locked in a shed, overnight(s). When he talks to his spouse, she warns him to leave it or else threaten the futures of their own kids. Two separate women in the book are shown as pragmatic and cold, a foil to the MC who is shown as principled and naive

I liked the book and felt immersed in the town. Appreciated the themes of feminism, community, purpose, choice. I zoned out while listening quite often -- it was a slow, rainy day kind of read. I understand why it's so popular and think it could make for an interesting book club book -- plenty to talk about even in such a short book.
