I learned a lot from reading this book. She did a great job of being user friendly and I didn't feel it was pushy.

I don't think I've ever actually read a cookbook, but so far, this one's my favorite. Alicia Silverston'e writing is really fun. There's a lot of information to take in, but she's totally relatable. I can't wait to start cooking!!

I really want I like this but can't quite get there. I adore the tiered system that encourages people to eat vegan more often even if they aren't ready to be "superheroes."

Some of the macrobiotic stuff reads like the pseudoscience it is (the chewing for one) but what bugs me the most is the use of too many Japanese ingredients that a lot of people wouldn't be able to source locally. You may be able to get some through Amazon but lotus root, umeboshi plum, umeboshi vinegar, barley miso, daikon, burdock, mochi, and agar agar, are just not that simple to find easily if you're not living in a city with access to a good Japanese market. I do and I still couldn't find everything here.

Also, it's nearly unforgivable that there is no recipe table of contents. With recipes divided into vegan and superhero, it can be frustrating to quickly identify something new to make or find that thing you saw once that you want to try.

I give it three stars mostly because I enjoyed the read and do agree that life on earth would be better if we lived this way. It's just too bad that it's not quite as accessible as other vegan books make it. Neal Barnard's books, for one, are much more accessible.

Alicia's book was a nice supplement to the Veganist book by Kathy Freston which I recently finished reading. I really liked Alicia's down to earth and laid back style. This was a library book copy, but I am hoping to find a copy to buy soon so that I can add it to my collection and re-read parts as I need to, plus take advantage of the recipes she has. A lot of them do look very yummy!

I like her style: straight-forward and down-to-earth.

I've only made one recipe so far but will add more in the coming weeks. I hope I can get into the simplistic Superhero Asian-style flavors, I certainly don't incorporate that stuff yet.

Some good looking recipes, and I did enjoy the information about veganism. Worth flipping through if that lifestyle appeals to you!

I've been on a temporary vegan kick for a couple months now, inspiring my boss to learn more about the benefits of eliminating animal foods. Alicia Silverstone's new book was her most recent finding so I got the chance to read through it the other day, and it's surprisingly one of the more tolerable publications concerning veganism.

The recipes sound really great, but my main complaint there is that I would be spending my whole paycheck at the Japanese aisle in Whole Foods to abide by her diet plans.

Basically, this book is not total bullshit and I may have been convinced to remain vegan for a spell longer. I could go without the peppered mentionings of inner-goddesses, but what can you do? You'd probably start on that new-age trip, too, had you not enjoyed a steak in the past decade.

The recipes will appeal to people who love soy sauce (shoyu) - at appears in many of the dishes. I'm not a fan of soy (shoyu) so I was disappointed about how many of the dishes called for it. There are a couple recipes I want to try - but there are several that I won't be able to do because I can't buy the ingredients where I live. That is also disappointing. Ms. Silverstone put a lot of effort into pointing out the importance of eating locally grown foods - the recipes seem to cater to those who live in Cali (or any major city for those who don't mind buying foods not locally grown).

I thought this book was well written in Alicia's quirky style. Since I have been vegan for years the information was not new to me, however, it would enlighten those who are not vegan or are new to veganism. The book is written in a non-confrontational manner which may allow more people to accept the data within it. Some people are turned off from the dark facts of the factory-farm and agricultural world and if told in certain ways can lead to people not listening. I prefer the confrontational style, but I realize more people will probably listen to quirky.

Half of the book is recipes, which are then divided into vegan and superhero (macrobiotic) sections. I tried a few recipes from the book and enjoyed them overall. However, I believe there are some typos (at the very least) for the Coffee Fudge Brownies as it took twice as long to bake, amongst other issues. Regardless, the book increased my interest in macrobiotic eating and I will be exploring the topic more thoroughly due to Alicia's book.

This was a really great all over vegan book. The information she provided taught me some things I didn't know. I can tell you one thing, my meat eating family wished I hadn't have bought the book. I wandered the house 24/7 reading them off pieces of it. I was called many a thing during that time LoL. The recipes she has are quite delicious. I recommend this book to not only someone starting out or curios about veganism but also the the long standing vegans as well.
