I read the first half and then flipped through the recipes quickly, none of which jumped out at me. But her style of writing was enjoyable, even though on the Superhero diet I supposedly shouldn't have tomatoes or peppers (HELLO, SALSA???).

This is worth buying.

Probably a good read for a vegan novice or someone toying with the idea.

Inspiring me to rededicate myself not just to my veganism, but to *healthy* veganism. I'll take Silverstone's warm, enthusastic encouraging tone over the "Skinny Bitch" approach any day!

She has some interesting things to say. I found some of her suggestions to be helpful and informative. I was hoping for some more specific information such as how much protein etc. should a vegetarian or vegan eat. I do think some of her suggestions and recommendations are a bit far fetched (She avoids fruit and disagrees with fish oil.). I have read too many other things on both topics to be convinced to not take/eat them. In fairness, I didn't try any of her recipes so I am just rating this book on the text alone.

It was very disappointing to read that, even though she says she's vegan for the animals, she sometimes cheats and has a bite of someone else's animal-based food.

The book that changed my life!

There were some great arguments for eating more vegetables and whole grains, which I completely supported. I was also glad she put in the information about the environmental impact of the commercial meat industry, and made such a push for whole foods.

I was really put off, though, by how poorly defended many of her points were.

"Humans are the only species who drink another species' milk" (while true, we are also the only species who cooks & uses recipes, watches movies, wears clothes, and who has the capability/dexterity to make things like pasta, which she advocates heartily. I just didn't think this was a solid enough argument.)

"Make this choice like me, and many, many others" (I can't tell you how often she used the words "many, many" or "very, very" or "much, much." Plus, the bandwagon approach is pretty lame.)

Definitely not the best book I've read on veganism. I felt like the majority of the points weren't well-defended or supported by solid data. Call me crazy, but "it's sexy not to eat meat" just isn't convincing.

This is the book that changed my life. I saw it at the library one day and read it almost enitirely that night when I took it home. Silverstone explains the harsh reality of the meat industry and numerous benefits of a vegan lifestyle. Her recipes are amazing and delicious. I love that she gives almost a step-by-step guide on how to change your eating habits with the flirting, vegan and superhero stages. It was extremely helpful in making my lifestyle change. I highly recommend this book for anyone that is curious about veganism
