Fun read and overall great pacing. If you’re looking for anything other than a huge drawn out space battle then you should probably skip this one, but it certainly delivers there. The big action sequences tend to blur together a bit.

This isn’t officially part of a series but enough is left open in the end that I’m pretty sure it will continue.

I wanted to like this book, but I ended up finding it underwhelming. The characters felt cookie-cutter, the fight scenes all kind of followed the same formula, and the overall plot didn’t grip me. I liked the ship-mind concept and execution but I’ve seen similar ideas done better. All in all, I think it just wasn’t for me. But I could see this having its audience. There is plenty of lore to the world and it has familiar tropes that can make for an enjoyable read. I didn’t hate it but I wasn’t wowed.

It was fine and would have been a solid book had it been 450 pages instead of 900. A lot of needless twists and turns

I haven't read much sci fi, and I thought Christopher Paolini had done it again with a masterful book, until the end. The last 3-5hrs i listened to destroyed this whole universe he built - the characters, plot, and science built in. It felt like a different author hurriedly wrapped up the ending. Too many coincidences, sudden mastery, sudden relationships and attachments.

But maybe im close-minded since I don't read sci fi often. So a 3 bc i would recommend to a friend/someone interested in the genre or who likes the author.

Think Firefly with aliens! Hadn't read a scifi tome lately, so Paolini's first adult novel seemed like a good fit. It's loooooong. But I loved it! So much character development in Kira, the main character, a scientist who becomes more than human when she encounters alien lifeforms. It's a lot more complicated than that, but I never got confused reading Paolini--the world-building is fantastic. The comradery on the ship reminded me of my favorite spaceship crew on the Firefly and the technology seemed so plausible.

DID NOT FINISH: 50%

It's a very long book, and I found myself getting too distracted to focus on what was happening. I was listening to the audiobook, so I might try to finish it with a physical copy in the future.
