Welp. Really convinced I'm in a slump because this book was just terrible

Not a big fan of the art style and wasn't excited by the plot.

Read the single issues. I liked this story line better than the last, but not loving it as much as I want to.

Maybe could have included the original spiderverse issue instead of giving the Peter context through other flashbacks, etc. But yeah, really good. I've always loved Gwennie, so I'm happy to have this version with her as hero.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one, I love the spider-verse. I have to say [b:Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, Volume 1|590210|Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, Volume 1|Sean McKeever|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348458339s/590210.jpg|576972] is cuter, but this one isn't supposed to be syrupy sweet, it's grittier in art and plot. It is a great alternate telling of the Spiderman mythos but with no Peter Parker and Gwen is the main character. Read for the ReadHarder Challenge 2017 18: Read a superhero comic with a female lead.

So this universe is kinda the best, with Spiderwoman, Captain America is a woman and Peggy Carter is in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. I probably missed all the connections to Spidey though since I don't really know much about him.

really just a delightful alternate take on the Spider-man/Gwen Stacy saga. The universe is fun to explore as you learn each familiar character is similar to what you're familiar with, but on the opposite side of their coin. From Frank Castle being a corrupt cop, to Matt Murdock being a ninja Kingpin, you'll constantly be entertained and delighted.

Actual rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than volume 0 as I think the story was more coherent. It actually followed one main story instead of multiple and it was much easier to follow, plus more interesting. The art is just insanely wonderful as well.

There are still a few volumes however I think I'll give them a break for now and return later. I've enjoyed the break from novels though!

Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse was a true delight so I had to get my hands on this Spider-Gwen issue to learn more about the girl in ballet shoes.

This was a serviceable, fun introduction to Gwen Stacy, who in this alternative universe, is bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes a superhero. She’s just as plucky as Peter Parker with a little more grit and different hang-ups. In this universe, lots of well-known characters serve entirely new and different purposes: Daredevil is a villain, the Punisher is a cop and Captain America is still a badass but also a woman.

I think new, young fans will be tickled by this version of Spidey, especially given the success of the animated movie.
