Fast paced action, humorous likeable main characters and vivid writing. It's a good versus evil plot, but who is on whose side? It has everything to keep tweens/teens (especially reluctant ones) turning the pages. Book 1 in the Skulduggery Pleasant series will hook you in.

Notable mention to the Audible version, The Troll Beneath Westminster Bridge is read (by Rupert Degas) with such creativity that it takes my top spot for best Audible extracts.

This was honestly just so fun. I did feel like the ending wrapped up a little quickly and part of me would like a bit more worldbuilding, however this is the first in a (very long) series so I'm sure that will come later. Some of the worldbuilding could also be a tad infodumpy at times but I did find myself overlooking that. The characters in this are very solid and felt real. There is also some great humorous moments but the book does also get serious when it has to. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series!

While it is a relatively juvenile read, I also found it a great story - easy to follow and a nice way to let your imagination wander without challenging it too much.
