This book was a fun, sarcasm filled, bloody, adventure, and there was magic! The title's vocabulary continues throughout the book, so those with terse lexicon may want to keep a dictionary handy. I personally found the word play amusing.

3,5 estrellas.

Having just finished George R. R. Martin's "A Clash of Kings", I was looking for something lighthearted and entertaining. Definitely found what I was looking for in Derek Landy's Skulduggery Pleasant.

It's not every day that one has the pleasure to meet a reanimated skeleton named Skulduggery Pleasant. But with the unfortunate passing of her Uncle Gordon, that is just the kind of predicament twelve-year-old Stephanie finds herself in. Believing her Uncle to have been protecting something of vital importance - something that might possibly have been left in Stephanie's care after her Uncle's passing - Pleasant whisks her away from her hum-drum life in order to unravel the mystery that surrounds her Uncle's death, and in doing so opens the door to a world of magic that is being threatened by an old nemesis: Nefarian Serpine (ooh, doesn't the name send chills down your spine? What an EVIL name! :P).

Stephanie is a head-strong young girl with a thirst for adventure. Nothing Skulduggery says can persuade her to stay away from the dark and dangerous world of magic. Not that he would have it any other way, of course, as he rather likes Stephanie's annoying habit of Not Doing What She's Told. The banter between the two is often side-splitting, pleasantly witty. The plot is delightfully simple, lacking in twists and turns and all of that kind of fuzzy stuff that clouds your noggin'. It's just some good ol' fashion story telling - no gimmicks!

Would definitely recommend this if you want something simple and lighthearted. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series!

I remember reading this book as a kid in like 2008. I'm glad it's held up, it's still a blast!

Stephanie is just an ordinary 12-year old until her uncle dies. In his will, he leaves her his vast fortune and the house he had made his home for many years. A friend of his, always in a long coat, hat, and sunglasses, makes her curious as to what her uncle was involved in.

But then one night she is attacked in her uncle's home and she discovers a world full of magic that she must now enter to save her life.

This book is funny, action-packed, and impressive in the way the story unfolds. Stephanie, however, seems much older than 12. A good recommendation for Harry Potter fans.

Can I just, ya know, keep a mini Skulduggery in my pocket so I can have some one to banter with when I get bored. Cause, I really, really dig his bantering. Val is cool, midly unrealistic for twelve, but hey, who am I to judge. Fantasitc book, and a definate must read for all you fantasy buffs out there,

I thought this book would be good but maybe it's because I'm not 11 anymore and I'm now reading it at 21. The writing is sort of cringey at times and the descriptions of the fight scenes are far too slow and undynamic to be riveting- and they appear quite frequently. Although the main characters are quite likeable the villains are so 1 dimensional, even their names are so simple that it takes me out of the book. Speed read this so I could move on to the next one.

I LOVED LOVED this so much. This may be one of the best middle school books ever. I loved Skulduggery and especially Stephanie. A heroine who is control of her self, her future, and her destiny.
