So, so good. clever and witty with excellent characters. I don't know what took me so long to read this!
A quick enjoyable read, but probably more a children's bog than I anticipated.
This is a fantastic book! Very exciting, funny in places and just overall just fast paced fun.
The main character is Stephanie, a young girl who after the death of her uncle is pulled into a new and exciting world filled with magic, monsters and a bad guy out for the destruction of the world. When Skulduggery Pleasant turns up to her uncles funeral and then again at the house Stephanie gets in her uncles will saving her from someone trying to break into the house Stephanie finds herself thrown into a world she never knew existed. Filled with magic, monsters and danger Stephanie is sucked into the world and doesn't want to let go.
The most noteworthy secondary character is Skulduggery Pleasant, shrouded in mystery and danger, he is a private investigator and skeleton. He is baddass and awesome helping Stephanie uncover the truth about her uncles death as the two investigate some happenings in the magical world.
The storyline was original and difficult to put down and the pacing was superb keeping readers interested all the way through. I read this book cover to cover because I was hooked, it was truly awesome and a new favourite.

This book stars a 12 year old protaganist and is frequently billed as kid lit, but has a surprising amount of violence in it.
I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting one of my childhood favourites. Still as exciting and as funny as I remember and a perfect little tonic and escape from the fucking mess that is 2020.
Am I bothered about rereading the rest of the series? Nah probably not. Was just a quick nostalgia trip after all.

It's hard to explain the impact that Skulduggery Pleasant had on me when I first read it. Up until now, a lot of young adult fiction that I'd read had taken itself very seriously. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but the irreverance displayed by Landy's prose was and is refreshing. The characters are immediately likeable while still displaying clear, real character flaws. The world building is also supremely engaging without feeling like you're being constantly info-dumped. You can immediately get a handle on how this world works and where the characters fit into it.
Skulduggery Pleasant had a formative effect on my taste in literature, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I listened to the audiobook of this one. The narrator was sooooo wonderful, and the sound effects added nicely to the overall experience. This was a fun read, and a great audio experience.
