Skulduggery Pleasant

This book had sufficient writing, and Skulduggery was a fun, entertaining, and lovable character. And while none of the other characters were bad, I still didn't have much interest in most of them. But really the only thing that would bring me back for sequels is Skulduggery himself. The interview with him at the end of the audio was very well done, too.

There's nothing like a book with magic, adventure, murder mystery, and witty banter from a skeleton. The last time I read all of the Skulduggery Pleasant books was when I was in junior high and I had forgotten how hilarious they could be while still managing to include small heartfelt moments and exciting adventure. I really don't have many qualms with this, though I wouldn't say it was quite five stars.

Stephanie is a normal 12 year old until she inherits her uncle’s estate. Her uncle was an author and she soon learns that the stories of magic and monsters he wrote about were based in reality. Magic is real and her magical mentor is one Skulduggery Pleasant, a skeleton detective. Soon Stephanie is fully immersed in the secret, dangerous world of magic.
I LOVE this Irish import so much. It’s action-packed and hilarious. The banter between Stephanie and Skulduggery is my absolute favorite.

Pretty good, darker than I expected when the 13 year old said the 10 year old would like it - after listening to it, I don't think she would. But Miss 13 thinks it's great and compared to the other stuff she reads I'm sure it is "tame."
I usually don't like music in audiobooks, but in this book it seemed perfect.
May or may not continue the series.
