It was enjoyable, I liked the banter and obviously I like Skulduggery. It moved very quick and is quiet obviously a middle grade book so I can't be too harsh on it as I'm older. However, lots of action and those scenes were a bit eh, I suppose they become too much at time. I look forward into seeing more about the elements though

I'm in love with this series. It's like if Victoria Schwab wrote a goosebumps novel and I'm so here for it. Also Skullduggery is a straight shot of sass and I'm HERE FOR IT.

"Being a detective isn't all about torture and murder and monsters. Sometimes it gets truly unpleasant. The fate of the world may depend on whether or not you can bring yourself to visit your relatives."
- Skullduggery Pleasant to Stephanie.
I loved this book. Loved it. The book is the right mix of action and wit. The relationship/dialogue between Stephanie and Skullduggery was entertaining. I laughed aloud so many times. My nine-year-old daughter loved it as much as me. We looked for excuses to drive so we could listen to it. I highly recommend the audiobook because the author Derek Landy narrates it. He's got a nice Irish accent and he does impressive voices.
Stephanie's uncle dies and leaves her the estate. When someone tries to attack her, she learns of a magical world she never knew existed. Skullduggery, also present at the reading of the will and the one who saved her from the attacker, turns out to be a magical detective. He tries to return Stephanie to her old life, but she refuses. She doesn't believe she could return even if she wanted. Someone thinks she has an important key and is willing to kill her to get it.
Skullduggery and Stephanie were well-rounded, believable characters. The other characters were entertaining and had dimension. Landy created an interesting world.
I'm getting the next book ASAP. Too bad it won't be the audiobook.

An adventure on an adventure, that all lovers of magic and mysteries will adore.
This is my third go round with this book, I keep getting sidetracked by other books before I can finish the series as it is currently published.
The book is funny, smart and snarky; qualities I love. It reminds me very much of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher but for a younger audience. Skulduggery Pleasant has the perfect blend of mystery, magic and action.

I think I'm getting too old for some books when all I'm thinking is 'she's a child??? Why are they getting her to do all these things??'
