I really enjoyed this book! I loved My Best Friend's Exorcism, and I like the inspiration Hendrix took from it to write this. I usually don't love character that are too old for me to relate to at least a little, but despite the large age difference between the main characters and me, Hendrix writes lovable characters. How he writes about hope and friendship is beautiful without being too in-your-face about it. The gore in this is a little much, but I feel like his writing is worth it.

I flew through this book. I liked the writing style a lot — I was worried as I DNFed The Final Girls Support Group because I’m not a horror movie fan, but was pleasantly surprised by this one. Don’t let the pretty cover fool you, this shit gets daaaark. Like, def check out the trigger warnings for this one.

This is a supernatural horror, so there was obviously some suspension of disbelief involved. That said,
why did no one question the rats??? Like, I know they didn’t publicize Ms Mary’s rat death a bunch because it was weird and gross, but was no one like WTF?? Where’d all those rats come from?
. I also wish we’d gotten to know more about this particular brand of vampire lore as it clearly departed from Dracula/Edward Cullen standard vamp rules.

Loved basically everything, it’s a unique perspective on a common horror theme. Haven’t felt strongly about as many characters in a book in a while
fuck you Carter
hard to predict, and easy to read quickly. Only real issue I had was with the stereotyping whenever anyone from Six Mile was mentioned, other than that it would be nitpicking. Overall great book!

I was SO excited for this one, and I'm pretty disappointed. The horror was definitely there, and I was definitely gagging throughout several scenes in this book, but it also could've been 100 pages shorter. There was so much time where no one believed our main character and so much time was spent trying to convince them that this dude who moved in is dangerous. This is my third Hendrix so far, and Horrorstör still has the spot for my favorite.
