Lots of gross details you can tell it’s a man writing women. Lots of unnecessary naked women with WAY too many details and the sexualization of a minor

A reflection of southern women and their desire to be domesticated. Some of the scenes were quite vivid and shocking like there’s a rape scene.

Very interesting story, I just felt like some of the horror was rooted in s*x in a way that didn’t add to the story for me. I know Dracula is heavily based in undermining women and upholding old stereotype, but it took me out of the story sometimes. Had me rooting for those ladies tho! Also interesting to think about how long it actually took them to tell this whole story.

I really appreciated how the author touched on very relevant and problematic social issues through the lens of vampires (Gender roles, socioeconomic structures, biases, elitism, racism, sexism, assault, infidelity, greed). Despite this, I laughed out loud multiple times and empathized with the characters during their struggles. They were very real and very lovable, even if they suck sometimes. Ha. Get it?

I didn't have any expectations. I wanted a little read and that's what I found.
It starts pretty slow and there isn't a lot of action except by the end. There are a few disturbing scenes, especially toward the end.
I felt one big emotion throughout the book and it was anger.
It angered me how she was always victimized, never believed, how her husband and kids treated her
. Even though there isn't a lot of action, it is still a fluid read. I wish it had been more energetic: the detective work wasn't really detective work. It was more of a "I know that's all" which was kinda "ok". Though, I liked how vampires were pictures.
Always alive/truly immortal, no fangs, can go into the sun... Not the usual vampire
and I also liked how friendship was portrayed.
Even though most of it felt superficial
it was easy for them to turn their backs on others the minute they disagreed on something
, you can see how the women shared a deeper connection between themselves even if, by appearance, they didn't share anything in common.
