As I write this in 2024, it is remarkable to me that I cannot relate any lessons that I learned from Daniel Goleman's book. This is because this seminal title has permeated throughout the culture, and the importance of Emotional Intelligence is well understood, I think.

A note: Goleman's book is not a breezy, self-help guide. Nor is it an academic tome. With a style somewhere in between, 'Emotional Intelligence' was an important addition to our discussions when it was published in 1995.

A detailed and convincing study of the importance of our emotional lives and our use of emotions. I wanted more on how we improve EQ and deal with our emotions, but one suspects that's to follow in later books.

Emotional intelligence is perhaps the most important factor in helping us lead fulfilled lives. Compared to IQ, it is a better predictor of academic success, job performance and life success. And, unlike IQ, we can increase our emotional intelligence throughout life.

This book was very educational and beyond inspiring on emotional intelligence. I gained a lot of knowledge, however, it was a very long read. It felt very factual and I found I could only read small bits at a time because it became overwhelming. I do think people should give this a read if they have the time though, I learned so much!
