This girl just wants to hold onto her childhood: what with its simplicity, its purity, its fantastical imagination. She reaches out to her former invisible friend who - surprise - is a ghost of a dead girl, caught in her own limbo (only much more existential).
There is lots of very specific nerding out about being a goth. There are some accurate portrayals of that time in your life: when the high schoolers seem like MAJESTIC GIANTS that one cowers before. At the same time, I found the voice a little tinny? I struggled to connect with it; there was something a little bit "tell" more than "show", which kept me at a distance.
I love LOOOVEEEDDDD the craftsmanship notes at the end: how the character design came together, all that.

I cried while simply skimming this graphic novel and now that I've fully read it, I've cried once again!! HIGHLY would recommend this lovely book with a gorgeous and cute art style <3 It discusses how important it is to keep the inner child in you while growing up confused and anxious about what will happen next; your loved ones will always be there to help guide you, alive or beyond. Life is a blessing worth celebrating while we have it <3 "To childhood. And growing up. And growing old. And magic--whatever age we are" <3
