I liked Pretty Little Lion but I didn’t love it like I did the first one. Part of it was I wasn’t fully invested in the main characters, that said I’m still looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

*I received a free copy of Pretty Little Lion from Sourcebooks via NetGalley. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review which is honest and unbiased.*

Pretty Little Lion lived up to my expectations completely and fully! I loved getting to know Elijah better, and the story with Meghna was so well done! There is some mythology I found to be very interesting, and of course, the chemistry between the two protagonists was off the charts.

There's a lot of action, mystery and suspense in this story. There's also a lot of hurt - because of The Darkest Day, and also because of how much some people fight just to have the right to live a more or less normal life. The romantic aspects were well done as well, and I swooned more than once - both because of Elijah's actions and because of Meghna's actions.

Everyone knows I love me a strong female protagonist, and Meghna was definitely that. She was used to doing things on her own, without anyone having her back, though, and I loved it when she figured out that she could be even better if she didn't have to look in all directions at once.

Third Shift is an organization I can't wait to read more about, and the different relationships between the characters who work there are all interesting and intriguing in their own right. Snyder's humor shines through as well, and I laughed out loud more than once (in between fanning myself during the hotter scenes).

If there's a book you want for the fall season, make sure this one is on your pre-order list!

Second book in this series is better than the first— or maybe its just Elijah “Lije” Richter, head of the mysterious Third Shift black ops isn’t as angsty and self-recriminatory as Joe from the first book. Or maybe its because Meghna Saxen-Saunders was seriously Black Widow-bad and powerful.

Or maybe because the B romance here is Gracie the Chinese-Black medic finally figuring out how to be with Finn Conlan pretty-boy vampire and Nate the lawyer. (seriously, I was eagerly waiting for Gracie POV about midway through the book as Elijah and Meghna kept going into hiding, having sex (but mostly its summarized) and then going into hiding again).

Third Shift chooses Elijah for a sexy sting operation on the arm candy of a serious arms dealer. Only Elijah and Meghna encounter sparks– and a complication when they are interrupted mid-tryst.

They go on the run, but Meghna isn’t willing to give up her primary mission related to the secret she’s keeping from Third Shift, and C romance set-up vampire Tavi also wants to get his hands on the same info as Meghna. As usual, Third Shift plans just keep blowing up in their faces but Meghna, Nate, and even Tavi can’t quite resist the found-family allure of Third Shift and their hopefulness in a broken world.

And Snyder’s world is seriously broken. There’s more explanation in the first book, but enough background and references to “The Darkest Day” in 2016 (and its not entirely the election of an orange cheeto president) wherein supes were exposed to the world and cities turned into walled off sanctuaries against totalitarian/authoritarian gov’ts that we can see why Third Shift is so bent on making things a little better by picking off the major bad guys.

I’m in it for the world-building, the multiple viewpoints of Southeast Asian culture and mythology (sirens, aspara, naga), the explicit reference (okay, at times a bit repetitive) to skin color and in this book, why Jamaican Elijah needs his white partner Jackson to make Third Shift a success, and not so much for the steamy scenes– which are this weird combination of abrupt and explicit, but often summarized or alluded to after the first couple ones. There’s lots of alpha male dominant thinking by Elijah and not so much actual screen time for Elijah/Meghna.

But since this book did get better (less whining) and I loved the B romance, I will definitely read on to find out how Third Shift handles Tavi’s stealing of their mission objective for his own objective. And hopefully there will be a C romance for the tech guru Joaquin!

Given a copy for review.

I loved book one in this series and could not wait to get my hands on this book. I still really like the characters and the current issues that the author tackles in the paranormal realm. However, it took me over a month to finish this book. I read books in a day, not a month. I could not stay interested in this story. It felt disjointed and was too "flabby".
I am interested to see where the team goes next but I hope that the fun that is in book one comes back. Even Finn lost some of his sparkle in this book. The writing is still good, it just felt like there were two books in one and they did not fit together seamlessly.

I highly suggest you read the first book in this series first because it will help you understand Third Shift a little better. This world really. It's engrossing and before you know it you've read a few chapters. We get little glimpses into other members of Third Shift and at first, it was a little confusing because I wasn't sure who the book was going to focus on.

Elijah Richter is co-founder of Third Shift. He's a lion shifter and he is planning to get close to and seduce the woman dating an arms dealer. Then use her to find out what the man is planning.

What he doesn't realize is the Meghna is more than just a celebrity influencer. She's also a shifter, trained as an assassin and spy, with her own agenda for infiltrating the man's inner circle.

When she catches him watching her at a party. She invites him to meet her for a little tryst. And when they extend their tryst the morning after is interrupted by their target's right-hand man. Putting them both at risk, leaving them little choice but to team up.

I am not a paranormal type of person, but this one was so hot, steamy and intriguing that I stayed up two days to finish it. Meghna and Elijah had so much chemistry that it was undeniable. The twist of having them fall for each other and their ulterior motives was so good. I cant wait for the next installment

I liked this book even more than Big Bad Wolf, and that's largely because Megna and Elijah are amazing. Both are brilliant, dedicated, and of course, good looking. They fit so well together, and seeing them learn to trust and work together is great.

Throughout both books, the secondary characters are equally important. Portions of the books are told from their perspective, and each member of Third Shift is detailed well. If you like steamy, urban fantasy and romance, check out this series.
