The world-building was quite cool, but why did they fall in love...?
Stop describing books as romantic just cause they're "destined to be together" or whatever when the protagonists know as much about each other as I know about my co-worker: just because they're saying 'I love you' doesn't mean I believe it.

The concept was so interesting though! A bit disappointed in the end.
I was thinking that it would make for a great tv show and guess what: apparently that's in the works.

second book club book of the year!

very vibe-based plot - i wish there had been more details - why are they fighting? what is the point of the war?

but the writing was really strong and i liked the letter format!

oh, this.... THIS is how you fucking write a story!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cannot tell you how entirely up my alley this book was: from its length, to its genre (sci-fi!!!) and its main themes (letters! time travel!) and it's beautiful, painful, incredible gorgeous prose and the characters that you can't help but follow through strands of time and love each version.

how smart. how beautiful. how wonderful. i'm so grateful for this story. how to explain this is exactly how i want every single thing i read to be? dreamy and unknowing, but so full of heart - i don't need to understand, i just need to feel and love, and understanding will follow regardless. ah!!!!!!!!! Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was so beautifully written.

Think this will be one I come back to again and again to fully appreciate the prose!
