I really enjoyed this as a continuation of the first book in the Wayfarer’s series! I can’t say which I prefer as both of them are very good.

This one explores different characters to those mentioned in the first book and you could read it as a stand alone if you wished although the world may be a little more difficult to understand.

This was an emotive and interesting exploration about what makes up a person and how one can adapt to whatever situations they’re put in. With a beautiful writing style from Becky Chambers and loveable characters, it’s a wonderful book!

Easily accessible to read and fun to devour! I would recommend.

A great follow-up to the first book, though fairly different in many ways. It's a bit slower and more character-driven, focusing on a smaller cast of primary characters (see spoiler here if you want to know which ones)
This book focuses on Lovelace and Pepper; the rest of the Wayfarer crew is not featured.
It also has slightly "deeper" themes, focused on personhood, autonomy, and family.

I really really liked this. It was different from the first book in the series, and less lighthearted for sure, but Becky Chambers is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. The characters and worlds she builds are amazing and so well thought-out. This book had some darker/sadder elements than I'm used to with other books I've read by her, but not in a bad way. I can't wait to read the next one.

I was worried if I would enjoy this book when it's been such a long time since I read first Wayfarers and could barely remember it. Especially the ending. So I was pleasantly surprised that this had not much to do with the first book in the series. But I was also a little irritated because I had expected the story to take place on the Wayfarer, which it doesn't. So I still had a hard time to get into the story for half of the book. Also, the first half is very slooow and very character driven. Not much happens (which could be said for the whole book tbh) but you get to know the characters little by little and the more you do so the more you fall in love with them. And once you're attached to them, you have a lot of feels and want to read on, even if it's just to read about their day-to-day lives.
So this book has not much of a plot, but it's more about the question of what makes a person a person. It's about loneliness, autonomy and the purpose of life. And it's about friendship and (found) family - my all-time favorite tropes. It's also very wholesome and will leave you all warm and fuzzy at the end.
