Fast-paced but an underwhelming ending. I have questions about the parentage of the Covey girl and I found the answer to the big secret stupid. It didn’t really feel like much of a secret. I also thought the reasoning for Haymitch’s spiral to alcoholism was not good enough. I enjoyed everything expect the last 15%.

This was my favorite HG book Suzanne has ever written. The way she interconnected both the first prequel and the original trilogy was masterful. We know how this story ends, and we think we know kind of how we get there, but I was surprised from beginning to end. Some might call it fan service but it's given me all new insight into the way games work and especially the 3rd quarter quell from CF. She's said before she only writes when she has something to say and oh boy does she have a lot to say here. The main message being, propaganda is real and it is happening, is so incredibly poignant to current times. I was crying by the first hour and fully thru the ending. I've been thinking about the HG world since I finished, so excited to see what they do for the movie.

I have a lot to say, but the words don’t want to come out… just, screaming.

Only screaming.

(I had to deduct half a star because of how much I really cannot stand Edgar Allan Poe/The Raven. It kept pulling me out of the emotional resonance of the book)

MISS COLLINS HOW COULD YOU RIP MY HEART OUT AND STOMP ON IT SO. HOW DARE.

This book really gripped me by the heartstrings and refused to let go. I could not. Put. It. Down. I loved Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This one twisted the knife even deeper and made me a hundred times sadder. It left me feeling bittersweet.. you know the whole time how it'll end but you still wish that it'll be different somehow.
