What the fuck? You know what's going to happen and it devastates you anyway. Best in the series, my first 5 star read, this one is going to take some getting over. Going to read the entire series again just to really punch it home.

Do not read in public. Not even the start. None of it. I cried before the games began, I cried during the games, I cried after the games.

I was so wrecked when i finished this. Spectular book. You can tell Collins understands her material and is consistent in her world buliding (we learn so much more it's crazy). It ruins me how Haymitch was so lovley and giving and now the capitol (snow) has made him hollow. ALSO THAT EPILOGUE??!! I might have to reread the series now having some different context!!

Similar to the Ballad, Sunrise on the Reaping feels like a love letter to fans of the original Series. There are tons of easter eggs and throwaway lines that connect the books together. However, those easter eggs slightly cheapen the book in my opinion and is really the main criticism of the book. Otherwise, it felt like I was plunged straight back into the Hunger Games, following Haymitch as he fights to survive against all odds.

I don't think anyone could /make/ Collins write a new Hunger Games book, no matter how popular they are, how well they sell, or how many movies they churn out. But I can't imagine the rage and devastation that she might feel as readers have clamored for more of the Hunger Games world since the original trilogy concluded in 2010 and the movies in 2014, and society has turned into what it has. I mean, I can feel some of it in this book, but I think that's only a fraction.

Great book. Very timely, absolutely devastating.
